Located 65 km west of Dong Hoi city center, Dark Cave, situated in Phuc Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, is a popular destination for adventure travelers and those who love exploration.

Opened on June 5, 2011, Dark Cave is now located within the ecological restoration zone, a hub for many famous tourist attractions. Visitors can combine their trip with visits to Phong Nha Cave – Dark Cave, Dark Cave – Mooc Stream, Dark Cave – Paradise Cave, and more.

In front of the Dark Cave lies the Chay River – a tributary of the Son River – with a depth of 8 meters, a distinctive green color, and a cool, refreshing atmosphere. Here, visitors can experience kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, combining exercise with stunning views of the picturesque natural scenery.

The Dark Cave has a total length of 7.5 km, with a 250-meter-long wooden walkway inside. It is both a dry cave and a water cave. According to scientists, the Dark Cave was formed tens of millions of years ago; the flow of water through the Ke Bang limestone massif over a long period of time hollowed out and eroded the rock, creating the Dark Cave.

What attracts explorers and tourists to Dark Cave is its pristine interior, with stalactites and stalagmites in diverse and vivid shapes. The cave is also a refuge for many animal species such as swallows, bats, and the Ha Tinh langur. The temperature inside the cave is cool, consistently fluctuating between 15-20 degrees Celsius.

In addition to walking and exploring the cave platform, visitors can immerse themselves in a mineral mud bath located deep within the Dark Cave, 500 meters from the platform – a unique feature not found in any other cave. Deep inside the Dark Cave, there are very narrow sections that branch off into many smaller passages. As water flows through these passages, the sedimentation of soft mud creates the distinctive mud bathing spots.

Many foreign tourists are fascinated by the natural mineral mud baths deep inside the cave. Besides the enjoyable experience, mud baths offer numerous health benefits, as they are rich in salts and minerals, helping to treat bone and joint diseases and improve skin health. The micro-mineral particles help relax muscle tension and promote the regeneration of bone, muscle, and nerve cells.

Ms. Pham Trang, from Nam Dinh province, shared that this wasn't her first time experiencing a mud bath. The experience here was truly different, providing a feeling of comfort and purity unlike anything she had ever felt before.

Additionally, visitors can participate in the zipline activity. This is the longest zipline over a river in Vietnam. During the experience, participants – equipped with protective uniforms to ensure safety – will zip across the Chay River, enjoying the scenic views from above.

After sightseeing and enjoying recreational activities on the river, visitors can sample local dishes such as charcoal-grilled free-range chicken, sour leaf soup, five-colored sticky rice, wild vegetables, and stream fish... All dishes are prepared according to the distinctive flavors of the local people, offering a truly delightful culinary experience.

The best time to visit Dark Cave is from February to July each year.
