Việt NamViệt Nam01/01/2025

"The Red Journey" is a nationwide voluntary blood donation campaign organized annually across Vietnam, with a route stretching from North to South to fulfill the mission of "Connecting the Vietnamese Bloodline." In Phu Tho province, with the involvement of the entire political system, over the past 9 years of participating in the "Red Journey" program, it has changed perceptions, created a profound impact on society, and attracted the participation of a large number of people from all walks of life, especially officials, civil servants, employees of agencies, armed forces, youth union members, and volunteers, contributing to making the program the most effective and successful national campaign in the voluntary blood donation movement nationwide.

A large number of people participated in the blood donation campaign at the opening ceremony of the "Red Journey - Drops of Blood from the Ancestral Land" program in 2024 in Thanh Thuy district.

The Red Journey – Vietnam's largest blood donation campaign – is a national blood donation drive with the mission of "Connecting the Vietnamese Bloodline." First organized in 2013, it has proven effective in addressing blood shortages for treatment, especially during the summer months. Through organizing blood donation campaigns nationwide, the "Red Journey" has built a large network of voluntary blood donors, creating an invaluable resource for the healthcare sector in treating patients. Millions of volunteers participating in blood donation have fostered a spirit of sharing, helping, and solidarity among community members.

Over the years, Phu Tho province has actively participated in the "Red Journey" program and is considered a leading province in the Northern Midlands and Mountainous region in the blood donation movement. Through nine participations in the program, the province has mobilized over 40,000 people to donate blood and received more than 28,000 units of blood, with the blood donation rate reaching approximately 1.3% of the population. This has helped overcome the severe blood shortage, serving emergency and treatment needs at medical facilities. The movement has also produced many exemplary individuals who have directly donated blood multiple times and encouraged friends and relatives to do the same. These are beautiful examples, contributing to the flourishing garden of good people and good deeds in the province's patriotic emulation movement.

Officials, civil servants, employees of agencies, armed forces, youth union members, and volunteers participate in the Blood Donation Campaign.

Every year, as part of the program, the Provincial Red Cross Society, in coordination with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, organizes the "Red Drop of the Ancestral Land" blood donation day in response to the "Red Journey" campaign. The blood donation day in districts, cities, and towns throughout the province has attracted thousands of officials, civil servants, employees of agencies, armed forces personnel, youth union members, and volunteers.

Comrade Nguyen Khanh Toan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: "In the past, with the involvement of the entire political system, we have propagated to all levels of the people the noble meaning of voluntary blood donation, contributing to raising awareness about voluntary blood donation and blood donation safety; reviving the compassionate tradition of the nation, gradually making the voluntary blood donation movement a regular activity throughout the localities in the province. This is an activity with profound humanitarian significance, contributing to raising awareness of all levels, sectors and the people to continue to uphold the spirit of responsibility, showing compassion and noble deeds, actively participating in registering for voluntary blood donation, and resolving the shortage of blood in the treatment and emergency care of patients."

In 2024, the "Red Journey" program was organized in 51 provinces and cities. In Phu Tho province, the program, themed "Drops of Red from the Ancestral Land," was implemented in many localities, units, and businesses from June 5th to July 31st. Over 10,000 people received information and knowledge about blood through official blood donation days in response to the "Red Journey" and at fixed blood donation points. More than 4,000 people registered to donate blood, and a total of over 3,400 units of blood were collected. Every year, many collectives and individuals are commended by the "Red Journey" Organizing Committee and the Blood Donation Campaign Steering Committees at all levels and localities for their positive contributions to the blood donation movement.

"The 'Red Journey' - a journey connecting hearts, connecting Vietnamese blood - has profound humanitarian significance, embodying the noble deeds and compassion of the Vietnamese people, igniting a spark of life for critically ill patients."
