Voluntary blood donation is a deeply humane activity that helps "revive" the lives of patients. In our province, this noble act has spread widely. From the beginning of the year until now, Ninh Binh has received over 9,200 units of blood, exceeding the target set by the Provincial People's Committee for 2023.
Nguyen Duc Hoang is currently a 12th-grade student at the Yen Mo District Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center. Hoang recently celebrated his 18th birthday with a very meaningful act: voluntary blood donation.
Arriving very early to participate in the local blood donation drive, Hoang received advice on ensuring the quality of donated blood and his health after donating; he was guided through the procedures for donating blood… even so, he couldn't hide the nervousness typical of someone participating in blood donation for the first time.
"Before participating in blood donation, I had already researched blood donation. Blood donation doesn't affect the health of the donor; in fact, it's an opportunity to check one's own health. When I came here, I met many friends my age and also many elderly people... everyone was very eager and enthusiastic to donate blood because they all believe that there are many patients waiting for donated blood to revive their lives. If I'm healthy enough, I will donate blood regularly," Hoang said emotionally.
Mr. Do Trong Ket, Chairman of the Yen Mo District Red Cross Society, shared: Blood donation is an activity that receives regular attention and guidance from the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee, and has received enthusiastic support and participation from volunteers.
The participants in the HMTN (Humanitarian and Social Volunteer Program) are increasingly diverse in age and occupation. They include officials, civil servants, employees, union members, young people, workers from agencies, units, and businesses located in the district, and even simple, honest farmers.

Since the beginning of the year, the Steering Committee for Blood Donation in Yen Mo District has organized two blood donation drives, receiving 850 units of blood. These valuable blood units will be promptly added to the blood reserve to meet the needs of emergency care and treatment for patients.
As the Chairman of the Kim Chinh Commune Red Cross Society, Mr. Do Van Hoach has consistently been a role model and leader in the blood donation movement in the locality for many years. This has spread the spirit of donating blood to save lives within his organization and the community. Notably, Mr. Hoach himself has donated blood 15 times.
Attending the recent blood donation event in Kim Son district, Mr. Hoach said he was deeply moved to see long lines of people waiting to register to donate blood to save lives. The patience and perseverance of the volunteers are truly acts of dedication and have a powerful ripple effect. Mr. Hoach himself had many emotions during this blood donation event.
"I'm about to turn 60, the last age allowed to participate in blood donation according to regulations (18-60 years old). So this is my last chance to join everyone in blood donation. But I will still actively promote and encourage more people to know about and support this meaningful movement," Mr. Hoach shared.
Having been involved in the blood donation movement for many years, Mr. Hoach believes that the biggest obstacle for blood donors is the opposition from family members. Concerns about the health risks of blood donation are the main reason many families haven't supported their members participating in blood donation. However, that was a story from many years ago. Now, people's awareness and knowledge about blood donation have changed significantly. In recent years, blood donation in Kim Chinh commune has consistently exceeded targets by 30-40%.
Mr. Bui Trong Ky, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: "Blood is a priceless gift, keeping the heartbeat of patients alive," contributing to the timely emergency care and treatment of thousands of patients in need of blood transfusions. Blood donation is not only about saving the lives of patients today, but it is also a way for us to sow more seeds of compassion in the community.
The touching stories of exemplary individuals in the "Helping Hands, Helping Hands" movement in Ninh Binh province are the core and soul of the movement, and a symbol of the nation's tradition of mutual support and compassion. With the significant and practical contributions of these exemplary families, the "Helping Hands, Helping Hands" movement in our province is achieving increasingly outstanding results.
From the beginning of 2023 until now, medical units have received 9,238 units of blood, exceeding the target set by the Provincial People's Committee for 2023. Several more blood donation drives are expected to take place until the end of the year. It is anticipated that the total number of voluntarily donated blood units will reach over 1,000. Many more lives will have the chance to be revived thanks to this precious blood supply.
Hopefully, in the future, all citizens, families, and clans will continue to uphold the spirit of mutual support and compassion, persistently participating in repeated blood donations to become regular blood donors. Only then will there be a stable and sufficient blood supply for emergency and treatment purposes.
