From the first floating stage on the Perfume River, the first reality TV series, to a series of new ambassadorial titles, Miss Vietnam 2024 has created a journey full of the times. Besides the goal of honoring beauty, the contest also contributes to redefining the role of beauty queens in today's society.
The national final round of Miss Vietnam 2024 took place on the evening of April 20 at Quan Ngua Sports Palace (Ba Dinh, Hanoi), on a grand stage inspired by Thang Long Imperial Citadel, with lighting designs symbolizing the four pillars: Beauty - Culture - Intelligence - Dedication. This is the first time that the contestant's name has been called out, creating a friendly atmosphere. The image of the red flag with a yellow star was brought to the final stage during the Ao Dai ensemble performance, on the background of Vietnamese music, the radiant halo touched the emotions. The top 3, including Miss Ha Truc Linh, 1st Runner-up Tran Ngoc Chau Anh, and 2nd Runner-up Nguyen Thi Van Nhi, were radiant in their coronation moment on the floating stage in the middle of the Huong River, concluding a journey of more than 6 months full of emotions and challenges. After being crowned, the Top 3 Miss Vietnam 2024 appeared radiant and confident at a press conference in Hanoi , affirming their readiness for the new term.
For the first time, the Miss Vietnam 2024 recruitment event series was organized on a large scale and professionally across the three regions, starting at the Diplomatic Academy (January 9), followed by the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts - Hanoi National University (January 13), University of Foreign Languages - Danang University (January 15), Ho Chi Minh City University of Banking (February 24), Ho Chi Minh City Open University (February 25), University of Finance - Marketing (February 26) and ending at Hue University (February 28). This is also the first time Miss Vietnam has an online registration portal in addition to traditional registration and application forms. For the first time in its 37-year history, the Miss Vietnam pageant has launched a reality TV series. The reality TV episodes all carry the Organizing Committee's message of contributing to promoting the beauty of nature, culture, and Vietnamese people when contestants participate in activities at many special locations across the country such as Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tri, Hue, Hanoi... Miss Vietnam 2024, in addition to selecting the Miss and two Runners-up, is also looking for four Ambassadors in the fields of: Charity, Environment & Tourism, Media & Arts, Fashion & Sports. The ancient capital’s heritage space is clearly shown in the experiential activities: contestants learn to dance with cups, wear Hue conical hats, perform the “Step out from the paintings” ao dai collection of three regions, and at the same time explain the architecture and history of the Imperial City, Nam Giao altar, and Truong Tien bridge. Architect Hoang Viet Trung commented that the competition is “a vivid demonstration of respect for traditional values, creativity, and open perspectives” in the ancient capital of Hue. For the first time, there is a floating stage on the Huong River. The stage is elaborately designed with nearly 400 tons of equipment, more than 3,000 m2 of floor space, and the grandstand can accommodate 6,000 spectators.
Amidst the prolonged heavy rain that disrupted the construction of the water stage, the Organizing Committee of the Miss Vietnam 2024 contest was forced to make the decision to adjust the final night to June 27 instead of June 14. Journalist Phung Cong Suong, Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest shared: “This is the most difficult decision in the 18th edition. We are determined to maintain the venue, not change the scale or quality, determined to make a final night worthy of Hue, the audience, and the entire journey of the contestants.” The 25 contestants in the Final round practiced hard, especially in the 2 days before the Final night (June 25-26), they worked hard to assemble the stage in the harsh sunlight of Hue City. Regarding the most notable part of the “Miss judging” process: anthropometry, Dr. Truong Hoang Le Thuy, a member of the anthropometry team of Miss Vietnam 2024, said: “Before the round started, four contestants were represented to check to ensure that there were no recording devices or cameras in the anthropometry room. We are doctors with many years of experience, including one who has accompanied 7 Miss pageants. With decades of working in this field, nothing can escape the eyes of those who are familiar with the smallest details of anthropometry.” After being crowned, Miss Ha Truc Linh and two runners-up Chau Anh and Van Nhi had an emotional “homecoming” trip to Tien Phong newspaper and Hoang Thanh Media. They shared behind-the-scenes memories, burst into tears of emotion and expressed their gratitude to their companions. The term “Radiant Vietnam” began with emotion and hope.
