The pedestrian street in Tien Yen is attractive.

"The spirit of the past, the charm of Tien Yen Street" continues to be the theme of the Tien Yen pedestrian street in 2023. With its unique characteristics, Tien Yen pedestrian street has become an attractive destination for locals and tourists from within and outside the province.

Since June 2017, following the direction of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, the District Party Committee's Propaganda Department has coordinated with the Tien Yen Town Party Committee to implement, publicize, and solicit public opinion on the construction of a pedestrian street in Hoa Binh and Ly Thuong Kiet neighborhoods to ensure public understanding and support for the Tien Yen pedestrian street project. After the public awareness campaign, the District People's Committee organized a study tour for neighborhood leaders, representatives of the people, and relevant officials to learn about pedestrian streets in Hanoi , highlighting the suitability and feasibility of building a pedestrian street in Tien Yen.

The Steering Committee for the construction of Tien Yen pedestrian street held over 20 meetings to concretize ideas into specific plans, implement contents, agree on implementation methods, and directly supervise and assign tasks to members of the Steering Committee and Organizing Committee. As a result, on August 2nd, 2017, Tien Yen pedestrian street was officially inaugurated with the theme: "Ancient Soul, Old Charm, Tien Yen Street," coinciding with the first Northeast Ethnic Groups Cultural Week.

After nearly six years of operation, Tien Yen pedestrian street has been expanded twice, successfully fulfilling its goal of becoming a tourist destination for many visitors. Thanks to the pedestrian street, Tien Yen has become more well-known and many people want to explore this northeastern region of the province. In 2020, 2021, and the first half of 2022, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the pedestrian street's activities had to be temporarily suspended at various times to ensure disease prevention and control. However, after the pandemic was brought under control, the pedestrian street resumed operation and has maintained its success to this day.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tien Yen town, said: Currently, Tien Yen still has about 40 ancient houses that are preserved, creating a highlight of the ancient and tranquil town of Tien Yen, attracting tourists. To make the pedestrian street attractive to all tourists, the town has actively implemented many creative solutions and approaches. Specifically, we have built a light-filled street, a flower-lined street, upgraded and decorated the ancient houses, improved the quality of music stages and folk games, and regularly decorated themed highlights. The town has also established a musical instrument playing area, a place to rent and sell ethnic costumes, and launched an environmental cleanup campaign on the pedestrian street every Saturday afternoon.

Every Saturday evening, Tien Yen pedestrian street is bustling with tourists. Many cultural and artistic activities recreate the unique cultural life of the ethnic groups in the Northeast region. In addition, along the street, there are attractive folk game corners, such as: stilt walking, playing "an quan" (a traditional board game), bamboo pole jumping, jump rope, as well as painting, calligraphy, and sketching activities…

Ms. Pham Thu Huong, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: "Having had the opportunity to visit Tien Yen pedestrian street, I really liked the scenery here. It has a tranquil, ancient feel, but also many lively dance and music activities. If I have the chance, I will come back."

It is evident that Tien Yen pedestrian street has become a unique local tourism product. The pedestrian street's activities contribute positively to preserving and promoting local cultural identity, complementing the series of activities of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Northeast Quang Ninh Province Ethnic Groups' Cultural and Sports Week; and boosting economic development, especially in the fields of trade, tourism, and services in the district.
