Attractive Tien Yen walking street

“Ancient soul, old features, Tien Yen street” continues to be the theme of Tien Yen walking street in 2023. With its own unique features, Tien Yen walking street has become an attractive destination for people and tourists inside and outside the province.

Since June 2017, following the direction of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, the District Party Committee's Propaganda Department has coordinated with the Tien Yen Town Party Committee to deploy, propagate and solicit people's opinions on the construction of a walking street in the two neighborhoods of Hoa Binh and Ly Thuong Kiet so that people can understand and support the policy of building a Tien Yen walking street. After carrying out the propaganda, the District People's Committee organized for neighborhood leaders, people's representatives, and related officials to study walking streets in Hanoi to clearly see the suitability and feasibility of Tien Yen in building a walking street.

The Steering Committee for the construction of Tien Yen walking street has organized over 20 meetings to concretize the ideas with specific plans, deploy the contents, agree on the implementation plan and directly direct and assign tasks to the members of the Steering Committee and the Organizing Committee. Thanks to that, on August 2, 2017, Tien Yen walking street was officially opened with the theme: "Ancient soul, old features, Tien Yen street" associated with the first Northeast Ethnic Culture Week.

After nearly 6 years of operation, Tien Yen walking street has been expanded twice, promoting its goal of being a tourist destination for many visitors. Thanks to the walking street, Tien Yen is known by many people and they want to explore the northeastern region of the province. In 2020, 2021 and the first half of 2022, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the walking street's activities had to be temporarily suspended at many times to ensure epidemic prevention and control work, but after the epidemic was controlled, the walking street resumed operations and has been well maintained to date.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Tien Yen town, said: Currently, Tien Yen still has about 40 ancient houses that are preserved, creating a highlight for the ancient and quiet Tien Yen town, attracting visitors. In order to make the walking street attractive to all tourists, in recent times, the town has actively implemented many creative solutions and methods. Specifically, we have built a light road, a flower road, upgraded and decorated ancient houses, improved the quality of music stages, folk games, and regularly decorated thematic highlights. The town has also established a musical instrument playing area, a rental and sale area for ethnic costumes, and launched an environmental sanitation campaign on the walking street every Saturday afternoon.

Every Saturday night, Tien Yen walking street is bustling with tourists. On the walking street, many cultural and artistic activities have recreated the unique cultural living space of ethnic groups in the Northeast region. In addition, along the street, there are also attractive folk game corners, such as: Walking on stilts, playing mandarin, bamboo dancing, jumping rope, organizing painting, calligraphy, sketching, etc.

Ms. Pham Thu Huong, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: Having the opportunity to visit Tien Yen walking street, I really like the scenery here, both quiet and ancient, and there are many exciting dance, singing and music activities. If I have the chance, I will come back.

It can be seen that Tien Yen walking street has become a unique tourism product of the locality. Walking street activities actively contribute to preserving and promoting local cultural identity, complementing the series of activities of the first, second and third Northeast ethnic cultural and sports weeks of Quang Ninh province; promoting economic development, especially in the fields of trade, tourism and district services.
