After the 'fall', where is 'angel' Bui Lan Huong flying to?

Bui Lan Huong "entered" the entertainment world with a small role in the Vietnamese version of Glee (2017), attracting attention in the second season of Sing my song - 2018. Taking advantage of the opportunity, she released her debut album Fallen Angel in the same year, introducing songs she composed herself and produced in the dream pop style such as: Me muoi, Bua me, Sa nga, Ban ban ...

However, it was not until Bui Lan Huong performed Ngay chua gio bao - composed by Phan Manh Quynh (the theme song of the movie Nguoi bat tu ) that she officially had her first hit. The song with its haunting, dreamy lyrics that seemed to be "tailored" for Bui Lan Huong's voice was actually a "lucky shot" because when she agreed to record it, she herself did not have much expectation. Yet Ngay chua gio bao made a difference, following her throughout her performances from 2018 until now, indispensable in any music night.

Up to now, perhaps because the mark of Ngay chua gio bao was too big, Bui Lan Huong has not had any other song that can compare. She introduced many new compositions, released MVs, diligently sang movie soundtracks (to the point of being called "queen") and acted in movies but still has not created any explosion after that national hit.

For over 6 months, the female singer has temporarily put aside her own concerts to focus on her project as well as to keep her best voice for the Live Session and the show Me Muoi on the evening of April 28.

With the role of Khanh Ly in Em va Trinh , the audience was introduced to a voice with a very different color. Even musician Duc Tri once recognized that Bui Lan Huong sang Trinh Cong Son very well and appropriately, but Trinh's music still could not help Bui Lan Huong create any worthy explosion in her career...

Fans and followers of Bui Lan Huong will know that she has received formal vocal training, and she also studied jazz in Singapore. Therefore, it seems that she can handle any genre of music. On stage at the Musique de Salon program   In the August 2022 issue and most recently in April 2023, she appeared as a real star. In particular, Bui Lan Huong sings English and jazz very well and captivatingly. Musician Duc Tri - music director of the series of programs had to exclaim: "I really like working with Bui Lan Huong. She has studied music systematically so... she doesn't know what "fear" is! Normally, singers who are familiar with the arrangement are very afraid of even the smallest change, but Bui Lan Huong is different, the musician and the band just adjust the score when performing live, she can follow it all!". Although Huong's jazz performances are brilliant, Bui Lan Huong still returns to pop, it is not difficult to guess because perhaps, in our country, jazz is still a genre that is "difficult to approach" for the general audience.

Bui Lan Huong's interaction and invitation to the audience to perform together "scores points" with viewers.

Expecting "new flight path" of Moon Goddess

Most recently, Bui Lan Huong released songs in the Live Session Fallen Angel series - refreshing the songs in her debut album by adding rock sounds with musician - producer Quan Nguyen. This approach, for those who love Bui Lan Huong's voice, seems not enough. In the solo music night called Me Muoi (taking place on the night of April 28 at Gem Center - Ho Chi Minh City), the show is considered a "warm-up", an opportunity for her to perform new arrangements for old hits, and also a way to test the audience's love for these versions before officially releasing the album vol.2 Nu Than Mat Trang with a live show at the end of this year, she has not shown a Bui Lan Huong... that really makes the audience excited with her music. The songs and performances still lack a bit of "power" for Bui Lan Huong to shine and sublimate in her solo show. Therefore, the "anchor" for the audience with Me Muoi is still the hit Ngay chua gio bao (The Stormy Days ) along with two Trinh songs ( Mua Hong, Em Hay Ngu Di ) and the rock medley Tim Lai used to end the show.

What Bui Lan Huong needs most now, no matter what genre she sings, is a new song that is "soaring" enough to help the "angel" continue to take off in her career.

Dream pop is just a small/sub-genre of music, not enough to be called a musical genre. While the person who influenced Bui Lan Huong the most, Lana Del Ray, has expanded her style, it seems that Bui Lan Huong is still "nailing" herself to dream pop. Even though she has tried to add rock, it still doesn't seem to be enough. What Bui Lan Huong needs most now, no matter what genre she sings, is a new song that is "soaring" enough to help the "angel" continue to take off in her career instead of struggling...

It is known that the upcoming album vol.2 has the participation of Phan Manh Quynh and another musician, which means that Bui Lan Huong's audience has the right to expect a "new flight path" from the Moon Goddess.
