Equipping yourself with life skills
In the early days of this year's summer vacation, many vibrant cultural, artistic, and sports activities were organized throughout the province, creating beneficial and safe playgrounds for children and teenagers. From summer opening ceremonies in various localities with many lively recreational activities to children's painting competitions and cultural playgrounds related to books, all attracted enthusiastic and eager participation from the children.
One of the activities that receives attention during the summer for children and teenagers is life skills training. The opening activity at the recent Summer Book Festival at the Provincial Library was a life skills training session for children and teenagers. In addition, under the guidance and instruction of officers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police, the children were provided with basic knowledge about fire prevention and control.
Through engaging and easy-to-understand presentations tailored to their age group, and by providing concrete examples from real-world situations, the presenters captured the children's attention. To increase interaction, the presenters also posed knowledge-based questions, situational problem-solving exercises, and questions related to the topic of the presentation, offering prizes for correct answers. The children were also given hands-on guidance on handling potential fire emergencies.
Participating in this thematic activity, Tran Nguyen Khanh Ngoc, an 8th-grade student from Phu My Secondary School, said that the knowledge and skills taught by the police officers helped her understand how dangerous fires are, how to protect herself, and how to assist others in case of an emergency.
According to the provincial library's leadership, for many years, one of the activities that the library has effectively carried out in coordination with specialized departments of the Provincial Police during mobile book services at schools is training life skills for students. Using their knowledge, expertise, and professional experience, police officers from the Drug Crime Investigation Department; the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police; and the Traffic Police Teams of the districts and cities in the province have conducted training sessions for students on several topics, such as: drug prevention in schools; skills to prevent accidents, injuries, and drowning; traffic safety and traffic culture…
These sessions serve to raise awareness and provide guidance, helping students recognize signs and classify bad behaviors, and how to handle dangerous situations. They also equip students with basic skills for self-defense, prevention, and problem-solving, further developing their life skills. This contributes to the efforts of relevant authorities in promoting legal education in schools.
A rewarding and joyful summer.
In addition to life skills activities, the Summer Book Festival also included many attractive activities, such as: displaying books and newspapers to meet the reading needs of children; physical games with prizes; sand painting; chess, etc. In each activity, the children participated enthusiastically and joyfully. Especially in areas with books available, such as the Children's Room and the display area in the library lobby, many students and parents read together. Even after the service hours had ended, the books remained captivating, prompting children and parents to take advantage of the remaining time to finish reading before leaving.
| To create a healthy and enriching summer activity and attract children and teenagers, the Provincial Library organized the first Summer Book Festival of 2025. The festival is part of a series of summer activities and is in response to the 2025 Action Month for Children at the Provincial Library. This is one of the beneficial summer activities for children and teenagers and has received much attention from parents. |
From Ben Cat City, Ms. Vu Thi Nhu Trang arrived early with her two young children so they could participate in all the activities at the Summer Book Festival. She said that since her two children learned to read, she and her husband have gradually encouraged them to read. The good news is that as they grow older, they enjoy reading even more. “At home, besides their parents encouraging them to read by buying books and reading aloud, their grandfather is also an active reader who borrows books from the city library. Therefore, the children love reading and immediately agreed to participate when their mother mentioned the Summer Book Festival,” Ms. Trang shared.
According to Ms. Trang, summer vacation is a time for children to rest, so parents should let their children play and participate in more experiential activities to relax after a stressful school year. The Summer Book Fair organized by the Provincial Library is a healthy cultural playground. Here, children not only get to have fun together, but also learn how to access the library, equip themselves with effective reading skills, and contribute to building and forming a reading habit from a young age.
Exciting summer activities are taking place throughout the province for teenagers and children. These are not only beneficial playgrounds, but also places where children can improve their physical fitness, develop their aesthetic talents, enhance their skills, and gain valuable knowledge, contributing to a more vibrant and colorful summer vacation for them.
