A Vietnamese company's eKYC system can detect deepfakes

On June 24, the Military Industry-Telecoms Group ( Viettel ) announced that it has become the first and only enterprise to date in Vietnam to receive ISO 30107-3 level 2 certification - the highest level of anti-fake facial biometrics.

This technology is being applied to the Viettel eKYC electronic customer identification system developed by Viettel AI Data and Services Center; tested and certified by Tayllorcox, one of the world's leading ISO certification organizations.

Viettel eKYC is assessed to have absolute accuracy against 2D and 3D forgery forms; absolutely no confusion between user's face and forgery forms, ensuring safety against facial biometric forgery.

At level 1, the system can detect basic 2D forgery cases such as indirect face capture through the screen, face printed on paper, face printed on cards, etc.

At level 2, Viettel eKYC is capable of detecting more sophisticated fraud cases in 3D form such as silicon masks, faces recreated with specialized scanners, deepfake videos (fake)... and is ready to deal with highly complex biometric fraud cases.

The system passed about 3,000 tests by "faking" 2D or 3D faces that had access to the system.

According to Tayllorcox's measurement results, Viettel eKYC's error rate is 0%, better than the 1% error allowed by the standard, and there is also no case of rejecting real users.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Quy, Director of Viettel AI, said the company is researching and developing modern technologies in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) to help businesses and people access useful solutions, including electronic customer authentication and identification.

Viettel is the official partner of the Ministry of Public Security in providing chip-based CCCD authentication services. Viettel eKYC connects to the national CCCD database during the authentication and electronic identification process, automatically checking, detecting and preventing all cases of biometric forgery or fraud in just a few seconds.

This system is being applied in issuing digital signatures; signing electronic contracts; facial timekeeping; facial security control; opening accounts, issuing cards, appraising loans for many banks; controlling fraud and scams in credit; customer identification, customer authentication in insurance and telecommunications...

Since 2020, Viettel eKYC electronic identification and authentication service has been integrated into the systems of many businesses, helping to reduce over 80% of paperwork and save up to 70% of time to complete procedures.
