The Earth Hour campaign is an initiative of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), implemented since 2007, calling on the community to implement Turn off the power for one hour, from 20:30 p.m. to 21:30 p.m on the last Saturday of March every year.
Young people are excited to participate in Earth Hour
Right from the late afternoon of March 23, young people filled the seats in the stage area of the Youth Cultural House (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) waiting to watch the program. Nhu Y (student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) went with her close friend from high school, Bao Tran (student at University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University) and had present from early afternoon.
“We stopped by to attend the Youth Festival, shop and prepare to watch the Earth Hour program. I have known about this event since 2020 and also turned off the lights to respond," Nhu Y shared.
Meanwhile, Bao Tran said that the first year she turned off the lights, her family did not agree because they did not clearly understand the meaning of this action and did not know much about Earth Hour. After that, Tran found information to send to her parents and skillfully persuaded them.
“My mother used to find it inconvenient to turn off the lights and said that there were no power outages around, so why do we have to do that? I explained to my mother about the effects of turning off the electricity for an hour and then she gradually 'followed' me. Up to now, my mother is the one who asked me about this year's Earth Hour event," Tran smiled.
The Earth Hour event aims to raise public awareness about climate change and energy saving around the world. In Vietnam, the program to turn off the lights in response to this year's Earth Hour campaign carries the message "Save electricity - Make it a habit", within the framework of the 2024 Youth Festival.
Earth Hour is full of color and energy
From 19:30 p.m., young people who arrived early were stirred up with energy and youth while watching extremely exciting DJ performances to prepare for the upcoming Earth Hour program.
After a film screening of WWF's Earth Hour to help young people better understand the meaning and journey of creating community impact of the event, the program opened with the song "Save Her Earth - Save Her Earth". ” and “Wings”.
In addition, beauty queens, runner-ups, and artists from the Ho Chi Minh City Artist Volunteer Team also brought to the audience a very unique fashion show with costumes made from recycled fabrics, Recycled fibers and fish scales made by Viet Hung design team.
At exactly 20:30 p.m., the official lights-out event took place after the ceremony, followed by a series of songs and colorful cultural performances such as Colorful picture, Live like flowers. Over time, the purpose of the Earth Hour campaign has increasingly expanded in the direction of mobilizing the community to change living habits, bring benefits to the environment, and use energy more economically and effectively. In particular, in addition to tonight's program, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union also organized activities to respond to the campaign such as the Green Steps jogging tournament.
This year's lights-out event had the participation of Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H'Hen Nie and nearly 50 young artists, music groups, and dance groups. Young people spread the message of the Earth Hour campaign and responded to the event of turning off the lights around the world.
Activities to respond to the Earth Hour campaign have been implemented for many years in Ho Chi Minh City, thereby effectively promoting the spirit of health training, enhancing fitness and sports, and raising people's awareness. residents, union members, and youth of the city and contribute to the world's common efforts in energy saving, environmental protection, and climate change.

On the evening of March 23, thousands of young people in Hanoi gathered together at the festival Turn off the lights and turn on 2024 ideas in response to Earth Hour.
This year's festival is a series of activities lasting all day March 23 at The Loop shopping center (Cau Giay district, Hanoi).
