Making dreams come true from loss.

When she was a child, Nguyen Thi Binh, born in 1993, simply thought of bananas as just a familiar fruit in every meal and at the local market. But those very green bananas became the inspiration for the young woman's determined entrepreneurial journey.

Pain transformed into motivation.

Few people know that Binh's dream of creating a clean and healthy product for the community originated from her losses. At the age of 18, the young girl suffered the pain of losing her father to lung cancer. Before that wound could heal, sorrow overwhelmed the family when her uncle and aunt passed away one after another, also due to cancer.

Binh shared: "Before the family tragedy, I always wondered why my loved ones got sick? Is there a way for each person to prevent illness through their daily meals?"

This concern led Binh to start researching natural foods and active compounds that could support health. While reading a study in an American scientific journal, she accidentally learned about the high content of resistant starch in green bananas, which helps reduce the risk of colon cancer, supports blood sugar control, improves digestion, and offers many other health benefits.

The young woman suddenly paused: green bananas – a familiar fruit in her hometown – held such precious value. That moment marked a turning point for Binh. From that moment on, she decided she had to do something to elevate the value of the bananas from her hometown.

A journey of perseverance

After graduating with a degree in Business Administration from Thai Nguyen University of Economics and Business Administration, Binh had a stable job at a water company. She earned a decent income, worked in a good environment, and had a promising future, but her heart yearned for the green banana trees of the farmers in her hometown.

In January 2020, Binh quit his job, invested all his savings, and borrowed more money to build a green banana powder processing facility in Group 26, Quan Trieu Ward. Initially, green banana powder was well-received, but it still faced a major obstacle: it was only suitable for baking, as a snack, or for making drinks that required time and patience. Meanwhile, modern consumers demanded convenience.

Not stopping there, from 2020 to 2024, Binh diligently researched a new product: Banan green banana noodles, chemical-free, suitable for main meals and for many people, especially those on diets, people with diabetes, stomach problems, or those who need to control their weight.

Once its quality was confirmed, the Banan brand quickly gained market acceptance. Currently, Binh's facility supplies approximately 2 tons of green banana flour and 5 tons of green banana noodles to markets within and outside the province each month.

In particular, Binh has partnered with over 80 households to develop a 65-hectare green banana plantation, creating jobs for hundreds of seasonal workers and many purchasing and transportation personnel.

Banana noodle products are currently available in supermarkets, OCOP stores, clean agricultural product stores, restaurants, hotels, e-commerce platforms, and are exported to many major provinces and cities. Annual revenue is estimated at approximately 7 billion VND.

Binh is also finalizing a product line under his own brand, including: Banan green banana powder, Banan dried green bananas, and Banan green banana noodles. Some products have already achieved OCOP 3-star certification, becoming a source of pride for Thai Nguyen's agricultural products. Binh's next goal is to have Thai Nguyen green bananas with barcodes and a clear brand, conquering many international markets.

Under the skillful hands and dedication of Nguyen Thi Binh, the green Cavendish banana has transcended the hillsides of the old Phu Lac commune (where Binh was born) to become a representative agricultural product of Thai Nguyen.
