However, observations in the early days of use showed relatively positive consumer feedback. Along with that, many garage owners and mechanics also said that people shouldn't worry too much; the important thing is to understand E10 gasoline correctly and perform vehicle maintenance according to regulations.
The public responded positively.
Ms. Nguyen Bac Ha, residing in Tay Ho Ward, Hanoi, stated that she has been using E10 gasoline for her VinFast Lux SA 2.0 car for over a week now. After using it for a while, the car still operates normally, with no noticeable difference compared to when she used conventional gasoline before. “I haven't noticed any jerking, hesitation, or overheating of the engine. The driving experience remains the same, so I feel reassured,” Ms. Ha shared.
For ride-hailing drivers and delivery workers, the biggest concern is daily fuel costs. Mr. Luu Hoang Tuan, a Grab driver in Hanoi , said: “After refueling with E10 gasoline, my Wave motorbike still runs the same, without stalling. However, it seems to consume more fuel. I hope the price of E10 gasoline will drop further to reduce costs…” Users of older vehicles also have positive feedback. Mr. Nguyen Hung Cuong from Dinh Cong ward, Hanoi, said: “My motorbike was bought in 2009 and has traveled about 16,000 km. After refueling with E10 gasoline, it basically still runs normally. I believe that regardless of the type of vehicle, proper maintenance according to technical regulations is necessary for optimal performance.”

Pay attention to checking and cleaning the fuel system.
Speaking with us, Mr. Dao Minh Thang, CEO of Uy Tin Automotive Technology Joint Stock Company (MNAuto Pham Hung), said: “Some incidents occurring after refueling with E10 gasoline do not necessarily mean the cause lies with the gasoline itself. Since E10 gasoline became widely available, I have received several cars experiencing problems after use. Most cars showed minor symptoms such as shaking, hesitation, but still managed to drive to the garage on their own; only a few experienced stalling or engine failure, requiring roadside assistance. The main cause of these incidents is a dirty fuel system, including the fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter, which are clogged with deposits from using conventional gasoline for a long time without regular cleaning. When switching to E10 gasoline, the ethanol component can loosen and break down this layer of dirt, allowing the deposits to enter the fuel lines, causing blockages, fuel shortages, and consequently leading to shaking, hesitation, or error messages. None of the cars I handled that experienced problems after refueling with E10 gasoline had ever been in use before.” "We had to lower the fuel tank for cleaning. The issue isn't that pouring in E10 fuel damages the car, but rather that the fuel system was already dirty, and when it encountered the new fuel, the problem became apparent."
Based on his repair experience, Mr. Dao Minh Thang advises users not to worry when using E10 gasoline; if there are unusual symptoms such as prolonged difficulty starting, vibration, hesitation, engine stalling, or engine fault warning lights, it is necessary to take the vehicle to a garage for cleaning the fuel tank, checking the fuel pump, and replacing the fuel filter... The average cost for cleaning and replacing the fuel filter is about 1 million VND. Ethanol in E10 gasoline can also help clean some of the dirt in the fuel system, keeping spark plugs and injectors cleaner, reducing the risk of premature detonation, and supporting stable engine operation if the vehicle is properly maintained. However, this ability to loosen deposits can also cause problems in vehicles that have not been maintained for a long time during the initial transition period. Regarding fuel consumption, many garage owners believe that E10 gasoline may consume more fuel than pure mineral gasoline due to the lower energy of ethanol. However, the theoretical difference is usually not too large, around 3-5%. If your car is consuming more fuel than this, the cause could be a dirty fuel system, a clogged fuel filter, faulty fuel injectors, weak spark plugs, or poor driving habits. Once the fuel system is cleaned, the engine will run more smoothly, and fuel consumption will return to near normal levels.
Based on initial public feedback and the reality of repairs and maintenance at many garages, switching to E10 gasoline is not as worrying as previously reported. What is essential is that vehicle owners access official information, monitor their vehicle's condition during use, and maintain regular maintenance.
