They chose journalism as a career.

Accounting for more than half of the province’s press force, female journalists have made significant contributions to press activities in Thai Nguyen. Many women, although working in fields other than their training, always strive to improve themselves and devote themselves to their work. For them, each step is a beat of the heart.

The profession chooses the person

Before taking the university entrance exam, I never intended to become a journalist. In the 1995 university entrance exam, although I was a literature major, out of the 3 universities I registered for, I only chose majors related to economics . The Faculty of Journalism of Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was only a school that registered for additional exams. However, when my friends had received their university admission notices, I did not see any information. Right when my heart was burning with anxiety, I received the admission notice from the Faculty of Journalism. So my parents hurriedly arranged for me to enroll. After less than 2 weeks of studying, my family continued to receive the admission notice from the University of Economics and Finance (now the Hanoi Academy of Finance). Knowing that news, I was so happy that I quickly withdrew my application to Hanoi University to transfer to study as I wished, but the school refused on the grounds that the class size had stabilized. I was sad for several days, thinking vaguely, in the end I had to accept my fate… I became a journalist from that involuntary situation.

After graduating and working at Thai Nguyen Newspaper, I was very confused, from the working method at the grassroots level, to collecting information and writing works. Being a journalist is difficult if we do not make efforts every day. Perseverance and trying to learn from my senior colleagues have helped me gradually mature. Now entering my 25th year of working, I can only summarize 3 words: Always renew. That is to renew my thinking and knowledge by reading a lot to absorb more knowledge. Renewing in each work so as not to repeat myself. In particular, I have to keep up with the new journalism method - multimedia journalism with short, concise writing; taking photos with beautiful layouts and recording videos with vivid images, containing a lot of information...

When a Math graduate is a journalist

Graduated with a BA in Mathematics from Viet Bac Pedagogical University (now Thai Nguyen University of Pedagogical Education) in 1994, journalist Luu Thi Bach Lieu (Thai Nguyen Provincial Journalists Association Office) chose to become a People's Police officer. But to satisfy her passion, since 2004, she switched to journalism. She said: When I first started my career, I found journalism not difficult because I always wrote about issues that I was knowledgeable about. Later, when I started doing topics in different fields, I realized that journalism is not easy. Especially with interviews with provincial leaders, leaders of departments and branches or investigative articles that require interviews with authorities.

To improve herself, she spent a lot of time reading books on journalism, researching documents on assigned propaganda fields such as reports and projects of sectors and localities, reading articles on related topics... Committing to the profession, journalist Bach Lieu has never been afraid of difficulties or hardships. She shared: In addition to self-study, I diligently go to the grassroots to learn about reality, especially in highland villages and hamlets, where people's living conditions are still difficult. Listening and feeling what happens in life helps journalists gain more practical knowledge to create the most vivid work...

Not afraid of hardship

Journalist Thu Hien (Thai Nguyen Radio and Television Station) is one of the typical writers in Thai Nguyen journalism. After 25 years of working, she has a fortune of awards, including many works that won national journalism awards or awards organized by central ministries and branches. Talking about her career, she always shows her deep love for the job she has chosen.

She said: Women journalists will have a much harder time than men when they have to fulfill their duties as wives and mothers, and also have to regularly travel to work at the base. Especially when doing stories, women will have more pressure than men to arrange and allocate time to complete the work on schedule. However, my female colleagues and I have never given up because we are not afraid of pressure.

As a younger generation of journalists, journalist Thu Nga (Thai Nguyen Newspaper) always learns from her senior colleagues in the process of carrying out her duties. For her, being able to learn, participate in work and collaborate with her seniors is a blessing. Therefore, regardless of day or night, rain or shine, when the agency's leaders summon and assign tasks, she is always ready. She said: For several years, I have not had the opportunity to take my child to the opening ceremony of the new school year like other mothers because I am often assigned to cover the opening ceremony. I do not consider it a hardship or a disadvantage, but always put the responsibility of a journalist first.

For journalist Kim Ngan (Thai Nguyen Literature and Arts Magazine), working in dangerous conditions and overnight is no longer a rare thing. Once, to record evidence of environmental pollution, she had to work at night in a secluded field where no one was around. She said: Those were the experiences that made me love and appreciate this difficult, arduous, but also very proud job.

Journalism is a difficult, arduous and dangerous profession, and even more so for female journalists. Thai Nguyen female journalists all have in common the love of their profession, the willingness to sacrifice and dedicate themselves to their chosen work. However, in addition to their own efforts, they also need the sharing and sympathy of their loved ones.
