Hai, originally from the sunny and windy province of Nghe An, came to Ho Chi Minh City to study to become a chef. In 2005, he chose Tay Ninh as his place of work. "I found the land and people here gentle, and the climate favorable, so I decided to settle down and consider it my second home," Hai shared.

During his years as a chef, Hai often saw his colleagues meticulously carving flower petals from carrots and pumpkins. These works captivated him, and he longed to one day be able to do the same. Many people were skeptical when he mentioned he would learn fruit and vegetable carving, but instead of being discouraged, he chose to prove himself through his actions.
Learning from teachers, friends, and through self-study, in his free time, Hai meticulously carved and trimmed every small detail on the roots and fruits. Initially, the lines were clumsy. Gradually, the flowers, birds, and leaves he created became increasingly vivid and delicate.
Hai shared: “My most memorable experience was participating in a major event about carving on fruits and vegetables. Initially, many people were worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace and that it would affect the overall results, but when the artwork was finished, everyone was amazed and praised it. Some even commented that I had a talent despite my disability. At that time, I was very happy, not because of the praise, but because I had proven that I had done very well and my abilities had been recognized.”
Currently, Hai owns a small eatery and is also the head chef at a large restaurant. He also frequently teaches cooking techniques and participates in fruit and vegetable carving events. "I think that if you work with all your heart and passion, no disability can stop you from succeeding. I've never felt inferior because of this disability and I've always had faith in myself," Hai shared.
Despite lacking fingers, Mr. Hai possesses an abundance of willpower to build his own life. Every day, his hands tirelessly work, a living testament that even in difficult times, with determination and perseverance, a person can stand firmly on their own two feet.
