The Government Office has just issued document No. 2021/VPCP-CN dated March 28, 3 conveying the opinions of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on the Research Project to build Can Gio International Transshipment Port, City Ho Chi Minh (Project).
Specifically, considering Proposal No. 1285/TTr-UBND dated March 14, 3 and Official Dispatch No. 2024/UBND-DA dated March 1284, 14 of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on Construction Research Project Can Gio International Transshipment Port, Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to review the contents under the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha in Notice No. 3/TB-VPCP dated March 2024, 102 (especially the feasibility and economic efficiency in the relationship with Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport, Cai Mep - Thi Vai wharf area) to complete Research project to build Can Gio international transshipment port; send a document to the Ministry of Transport for reference, research, and handling in the process of preparing the Adjustment Document for the Master Plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system in the period 15-3, with a vision to year 2024; Closely coordinate with the Ministry of Transport in the process of completing the Planning Adjustment Document.
The Deputy Prime Minister noted the need to clearly identify the output products of the Project and report to the Prime Minister on contents that are beyond the authority of Ministries and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, or contents that are beyond the authority of Ministries and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. It is necessary to have the direction of the Prime Minister (and send it to the Ministry of Transport for appraisal).
The Ministry of Transport urgently implements the instructions of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha in Notice No. 102/TB-VPCP dated March 15, 3; Research and review the Project to decide on the planning contents of Can Gio international transshipment port in the Master Plan for development of Vietnam's seaport system in the period 2024-2021, with a vision to 2030.
Based on the report of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on the Project's output products, the Ministry of Transport reviews and appraises it and submits it to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision according to regulations.
* According to the Report of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City, the research project to build Can Gio International Transshipment Port sets the goal of building Can Gio International Transshipment Port to become an international transshipment center of Ho Chi Minh City and the region. Thereby attracting shipping lines, transport companies, shippers, and domestic and foreign logistics service businesses to participate in the world transportation supply chain.
In terms of location, Can Gio international transshipment port is expected to be located in Con Cho island area, Thanh An commune, Can Gio district. The total expected investment of Can Gio International Transshipment Port is about 129.000 billion VND. The total length of the main wharf is expected to be about 7 km and the barge wharf is expected to be about 2 km.
The total area is estimated at about 571 hectares. Including wharves, warehouses, internal traffic, office areas, executive staff housing, port operations, technical infrastructure... about 469,5 hectares and the port operating water area is about 101,5 hectares. XNUMX hectares.
It is estimated that the first year's cargo output through the port will reach about 2,1 million TEU (1 TEU is equal to 1 20-foot container). After 7 investment phases, the volume of goods through Can Gio International Transshipment Port can reach 16,9 million TEU by 2047 - half of Singapore's current output. The port is expected to contribute 34.000 - 40.000 billion VND to the budget each year when operating at full capacity. The total investment capital of the project is nearly 129.000 billion VND (5,5 billion USD), proposed by MSC Group - the world's leading container shipping line.
In order to start the project in 2025 as planned, the Can Gio International Transshipment Port research project must be completed soon to submit to the Prime Minister.
