It shows the limitations of a hit song, and perhaps the artist himself longs to break free from that shadow and explore more possibilities.
Hoang Dung no longer wants to stay in his comfort zone.
Last October, Hoang Dung performed the song "Compass " on a few stages, but the applause and vocal performances were less enthusiastic.
The music is more groundbreaking and edgy, not as gentle and "poetic" as " Nàng thơ " (Muse), and while not everyone will like it, it shows a Hoàng Dũng who no longer wants to stay in his comfort zone. He revealed "La bàn" ( Compass) as the opening track for a major personal project in 2025.
Following the album 25 and the EP Yên , the 9X artist has just released his second studio album Xoay tròn (Turning Around) , the music video Giữ anh cho ngày hôm qua (Keep Me for Yesterday ) (a collaboration with senior artist Rhymastic); and also announced a concert celebrating 10 years in the profession in Hanoi on August 2nd.
All tickets are now sold out, just waiting for Hoang Dung to... show up.
The album features 15 new tracks composed and performed by Hoang Dung, with arrangements by Pixel Neko and Lelarec. The creative design and visuals for the album were handled by Duy Dao and the Studio DUY team.
Overall, the concept evokes a world of music that is colorful, vibrant, yet pure and thought-provoking.

Rotation and polyhedron
Opening with the intro to Cities, a lighthearted reflection on the concept of "rotation," where the present simultaneously becomes the past, the album unfolds like a "perfectly cinematic" film in music, capturing the artist's contemplations on work, love, dreams, the past, and the future.
It's a painting, and a self- celebration of beautiful youth, of not holding onto a place where time flows like a swirling fire, blazing up and then slipping through your fingers with the gentle scent of sunshine. Interspersed with the rich acoustic guitar sounds are impromptu whistles, relaxing, enjoying, and appreciating every moment of the world.
Hoang Dung, your "little prince" Kevin Nguyen (the name Dung used when he first started his musical career) has grown up.
Thirty Blinks is one of the interesting songs in "Spinning Around," showcasing the pop ballad style that is Dung's strength, now presented in a more complex and rugged way, as if trying to break boundaries. Meanwhile, "Why Did You Just Arrive Now ?" presents a Hoang Dung city pop style, both modern and nostalgic...
The artist also collaborated with Nân on the song "Dancing in the Night," in which the ending is truly outstanding thanks to the harmony and arrangement, as if playing with the music, bringing the ballad into a symphonic setting that evokes the profound feeling of a pure night sky.
The audience also got to see the romantic, dreamy Hoang Dung again with songs like "Tach," "Em troi cay ," etc. Even the short pieces showed meticulousness and attention to detail in every note.
The song "Dancing in the Night" is from the album "Spinning Around".
Fifteen tracks represent fifteen different colors, creating a diverse musical interface that goes beyond the artist's familiar pop ballad style. However, his transformation today remains true to his past "resume."
In the song "Keep Him for Yesterday," there's a line that says: "Closing, opening, life is like that/ It carries us along a stream of new things and then we go on forever/ Keep him for yesterday, as you keep a gift close to you."
At 30, Hoang Dung is beginning to feel "old," and he enjoys contemplation. For him, every joy and sorrow is a gift to carry him through the next 10 years.
The album "Spinning Around" is like a high-speed train, preserving memorable moments in Hoang Dung's career, from his early days to the big stages, creating an emotional film of memories.
