Study 3 sessions, get your degree fast

The information about the teaching curriculum that Dieu mentioned on the first day of course consultation for us seemed to be left out. Apart from 30 minutes of reading the concepts in the curriculum in the first class, we were not given any basic information about the profession such as the structure of the skin, areas that are easily invaded by nerves, etc.

The third lesson went by not much differently than the previous two. With the excuse that we would have more time to attend class in the coming days, we “begged” Dieu to let us observe the entire third lesson. From the fourth lesson onwards, we would definitely practice diligently.

And then, the third session was still a model selection, Dieu was still the one holding the needle.

Before the 4th class started, we contacted Dieu and informed her that there was a change in her schedule back home. We had to return earlier than planned and could only attend the last class.

Upon receiving the information, Dieu was not only not surprised but also responded very calmly: "Then come and receive the diploma tomorrow."

On the last day of class, as soon as we entered, without even saying hello, Dieu slipped a laminated and framed certificate into our hands.

The information on the certificate states: “Certificate issued to D.TL – excellent completion of filler and botox class held at Charm Beauty”. The left corner of the certificate has the name and signature of Dieu – the training teacher.

Looking at us, Dieu sighed: "I knew you would be wearing something so simple today to receive your diploma, you should look fancy."

Having said that, Dieu threw us the white blouse and pulled us out to the beauty salon lobby to take pictures and award the diploma.

Dieu wore pharmacist clothes, we wore white blouses, holding flowers and certificates. This professional image made us admit that we had successfully “put on airs”.

So, after 3 lessons we got the certificate.

Regarding injection knowledge, we have to admit that we cannot remember the types of needles, fillers, botox and injection techniques. The only thing that kept ringing in our heads after 3 lessons was: “Go ahead, it’s easy!”.

After awarding the diploma, Dieu did not let us go but asked us to stay to give a sample who had been injected in the first session a touch-up. We still did the cleaning, sterilization and numbing.

While waiting for the numbing sample, we took the opportunity to ask Dieu about the tricks of opening a shop and attracting customers.

Since it was the last session, Dieu no longer hid from us but "exhausted" the lesson. Dieu advised that for new professionals like us, we should only open a hair and nail spa in the countryside for now. Injections should only be done secretly.

“When we first opened, we just did hair washing and nail care. Then when customers came, we started giving consultations on filler and botox injections. We hid the drugs well in case the inspectors came in and took them all,” Dieu pointed out.

Along with opening the shop, we had to join all the groups in the countryside, from beauty to food, travel ... After joining, we had to continuously post with promotional content and recruit models every day.

In addition to recruiting models and injecting customers at the salon, we have to post ads for injections at private homes. For injection services at private homes, we have to increase prices to cover travel costs.

We told her that we intended to open a large spa, specializing in filler and botox injections, not just a small shop, and Dieu did not object. However, Dieu said that opening a large spa would cost money to hire a doctor.

“If you want to open a large spa, you must have a medical degree, the rent is about 35 million VND/degree/month. In Vietnam, only a few doctors have a degree that allows them to inject fillers, not all doctors are allowed. Only doctors with a level II specialist - a dermatologist who has studied filler injections - can practice,” Dieu said.

This proves that Dieu has thoroughly researched the regulations for practicing the profession as well as opening a facility, but still did the complete opposite. Ultimately, it is all because of the "huge" profits that this field brings.

Seeing that we were still hesitating about whether to open a large or small shop after “coming out of the oven”, Dieu once again advised: “When you first open, there won’t be many customers. With a few customers a day, why hire a doctor? In general, if you want to open a small shop, you should just do it illegally.”

Dieu also assured us that the 15 million VND tuition fee that we had paid would be easily recovered from the customer.

“There is no other job that is as easy to make money as this one. Just poke and you will have millions in a flash. You won’t get rich in a short time. I was shy in the past so I studied late. If I had known it was this easy, I would have studied earlier,” Dieu said honestly.

Regarding importing fillers, Dieu said she just needs to message the seller's Facebook page directly: "Just say you're getting it for injections for customers."

It can be seen that the buying and selling of these solutions that have not been verified for their origin and safety is widespread and is not bound by any law.

In the last model, Dieu insisted that we hold the needle. In order to “withdraw early”, we had no choice but to agree, but only hold the needle to feel.

Controlling our hands, Dieu pressed the needle into the chin of the girl lying on the injection table: “See, see, feel the needle penetrate the skin and touch the bottom of the bone?”. Even though we didn’t feel anything, we still had to pretend we knew: “See!”.

That was also our last lesson from the training "oven".

After the "super fast" course, we decided to experience being "prey" and "testing" the injection skills of a student who had just started practicing.

Also from the group chat with more than 200 members on Zalo application where we met "teacher" Dieu before, we contacted an account named Lam Thao Nguyen, who regularly posts information about recruiting models for home injections.

In the first message, Nguyen immediately quoted us: “Sample injection is 800,000 VND/cc, customer injection is 1.5 million VND/cc. Good quality filler, durable for 1.5 years”.

We asked about the warranty, Nguyen answered without hesitation: "I guarantee the durability for you."

Having said that, Nguyen asked for our home address to come practice.

The next day, we picked Nguyen up on time, accompanied by a young man, Nguyen's friend.

Holding an A4 sized toolbox, this young man said that he only “escorted” his girlfriend to perform injections at customers’ homes. Even though they live in Hoc Mon (HCMC), this couple did not hesitate to travel more than 30km to Binh Duong to beautify us.

To save time, as soon as he entered the house, Nguyen immediately opened his toolbox and took out antiseptic solution to clean our lips and chins. After disinfecting, Nguyen started to numb the area.

While waiting for the anesthesia, Nguyen asked us if we wanted to be models or clients. If we were models, in addition to paying 800,000 VND/cc of filler, we would have to let Nguyen take our pictures and post them everywhere without our permission. If we were clients, we would have to pay double the amount, and our pictures would be kept confidential.

We decided to be a guest, using lip and chin filler injection service. Because according to Nguyen, lips and chin need to use 2 different types of filler.

During the conversation, Nguyen said that he himself was also trained by the super-fast "furnace" in a few weeks. After graduating and practicing for a while, Nguyen is now "teaching the profession" to many other students.

Just as “teacher” Dieu had told us before, when injecting a customer, some people will ask to check the filler type. In these cases, the person injecting the product should feel free to let them check, because “no matter how you check, you will not be able to find out the origin and price”.

“Right on target,” when we asked to check the filler we were about to get, Nguyen happily gave it to us and advised us to take a picture to check the barcode.

Upon checking, the barcode led us to a link in Korean that said “this is a filler used for filling”. There was no manufacturing address or price.

From this filler image, we sent it to the supplier that Dieu had previously introduced. This supplier said that this type of filler costs 200,000 VND/cc. So, if N. uses 2cc to beautify us, she will only spend 400,000 VND, but earn 3 million VND.

After 15 minutes of anesthesia, N. asked us to lie down on the sofa to start the procedure. However, to avoid "injuring ourselves", we refused to inject at the last minute, still paying the full amount of filler that had just been opened from the box.

According to our observations during the time we participated in beauty groups from Zalo and Facebook applications, "practicing" like Nguyen's case happened everywhere, openly, as if there was no control from the authorities.

In groups, pictures of clients getting injections at home are constantly posted. Many even open spas in their apartments, receiving dozens of clients getting injections every day.

The serious consequences of "practicing" regardless are too obvious, however because the profit is too big and too easy, this wrong path is still chosen by many people...

3-in-1 apartment: Living - vaccination - training

Through a Facebook post inviting customers, we contacted M., who claimed to have many years of experience in filler and botox injections.

The post did not have a specific house number, only the street name, city and M's personal phone number. Sending the location via Zalo, M. said that was the address of his spa and made an appointment for us to use the filler injection service.

Following the GPS, our destination was an apartment building in Thu Dau Mot City (Binh Duong). M. was waiting in the lobby, pressing the elevator button for us to go to the 12th floor.

The spa that M. introduced was actually a 2-bedroom apartment where M. and her family lived. In the living room, in addition to the sofa, an injection chair was placed next to it. On the injection chair was another customer who was having lip fillers injected into his lips by a person wearing a white coat.

“That's my student. Only studied 2 sessions but he's very skillful!”, M. boasted to us.

In addition to receiving guests at the apartment, M. also continuously trains students here. The price is "higher" than teacher D., M.'s course is up to 25 million VND/course.

M. does not hesitate to admit that he is not a doctor, but started out as an amateur looking for a job to make a living - like the students he is training.

“The more you do it, the more you will become proficient. When you become proficient, you can open your own business. If you have time, you can take on more students like me now,” M. invited us when he saw our interest in the training course.

Having attended the previous course of “teacher” Dieu, what happened at M.’s apartment no longer surprised us. From the introduction of “genuine” fillers and botox to the “trick” of guaranteeing, everything was exactly the same.
