Recently, the STEAM for Vietnam organization, in collaboration with the American Center (under the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Vietnam) and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, successfully organized the 2023 VEX IQ Robotics National Championship to select the 20 best teams to compete in the 2023 VEX Robotics World Championship, which will take place in May 2023 in the United States.
The 2023 VEX IQ Robotics National Championship is a large-scale robotics competition (designing, building, and applying mechanical robots) that helps students nationwide learn and practice knowledge related to science , technology, engineering, and mathematics. In addition, participants develop essential soft skills for the future, such as computational thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. The competition attracted 162 teams with over 700 participants from 169 primary and secondary schools in 33 provinces and cities across the country. Of these, 47 teams competed in the primary school category for students under 12 years old, and 115 teams competed in the secondary school category for students under 15 years old. Teams competed in two main challenges: the robot skills challenge and the alliance challenge.
After more than two months of launching and implementation (from December 6, 2022 to February 26, 2023), with many exciting matches, the organizers have found the 20 best teams to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023 in the United States. This is the world's largest VEX Robotics competition, held annually, bringing together more than 3,000 teams from over 60 countries around the world.
Dr. Tran Viet Hung, co-founder of the STEAM for Vietnam organization, shared: “We are delighted that students in all regions of Vietnam now have the opportunity to learn and compete in robotics with the highest standards and international integration. Certainly, the experience of competing in the world championship in the United States will have a significant impact on their awareness, helping them develop the skills and experience to compete in the global technology market in the future. We hope that the participating teams will inspire more students in Vietnam to learn robotics design and programming – the first steps towards becoming true engineers in the future.”
STEAM for Vietnam is a non-profit organization established in May 2020 by former Vietnamese students who studied in the United States. Its aim is to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education in Vietnam. Besides organizing robotics competitions for students nationwide, STEAM for Vietnam collaborates with other organizations to establish a nationwide STEAM Hub system with over 50 hubs stretching across Vietnam, from Ha Giang to Ca Mau, serving the learning needs of over 30,000 students. Furthermore, STEAM for Vietnam has successfully organized five free programming semesters for Vietnamese students, attracting over 35,000 participants and resulting in more than 100,000 completed computer programming projects.
