Vietnamese students in top 4 of International AI Olympiad

With three gold, one silver and three bronze medals, Vietnam ranked fourth out of 60 countries and territories at the 2025 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IOAI).

According to the announcement on the evening of August 8, the Ministry of Education and Training said that all students who participated in the individual competition won prizes. Specifically:

- Three gold medals: Nguyen Viet Trung Nhan, grade 10; Nguyen Huu Tuan, grade 11, High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , Hanoi National University; Nguyen Phu Nhan, grade 11, Le Quy Don High School for Gifted Students, Da Nang.

- Silver medal: Nguyen Nhat Minh, grade 10, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences.

- Three bronze medals: Nguyen Khac Trung Kien, Bui Dam Quan, both grade 12, Hanoi National University of Education High School for the Gifted; Hoang Cong Bao Long, grade 11, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted, Da Nang.

- Encouragement prize: Bui Quang Nguyen, grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences.

In the team competition, Vietnam team 2 including Trung Kien, Bao Long, Phu Nhan and Dam Quen scored 198.4 points, ranking 4th after Poland, Russia and Hungary.

In the end, Vietnam ranked 4th at the 2025 International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. Last year, the organizers only ranked in the practical part. Vietnam won one silver medal, one bronze medal, ranking 6th out of 33.

The International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) was first held last year. IOAI 2025 took place in Beijing, China, from August 2 to 8. The competition, for high school students, aims to discover and nurture young talent in this field. About 300 contestants from 60 countries and regions participated in IOAI 2025, nearly double last year's number.

The Vietnamese team consists of 8 students, established by the Ministry of Education and Training at the end of June. They had to pass the national competition, hosted by the Vietnam Association for Information Technology (VAIP).
