In 2025, the 18th IOAA exam was held in India from August 11-21, with the participation of 228 candidates from 66 countries and territories.
As a result, the Vietnamese student team won 5 medals, including 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Notably, among the 5 team members, there were 3 11th graders, showing that they were prepared with knowledge early to participate in the international knowledge playground.

Mr. Pham Quoc Toan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Head of the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad delegation, said that this year's exam is the largest ever. The content and format of the exam have many innovations compared to last year. The exam structure includes three main contents: Theory, Data Processing and Observation (star maps, telescopes, projection houses).

Astronomy and Astrophysics are subjects in the field of Natural Sciences with difficult knowledge, but Vietnamese students are very intelligent and brave to win 5 medals. "With 288 contestants, the organizing committee only awarded 144 medals (accounting for 50%), but 100% of Vietnamese students won them, showing that they are excellent," said Mr. Toan.
The leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training affirmed that the result was not "luck" but the result of the long-term efforts of the students, teachers, and the attention of the schools.

In 2026, Vietnam will host the 19th IOAA and participate for the 10th year. This is a great honor and a milestone affirming Vietnam's position on the global knowledge map.
Representing the students, Vu Nguyen Nguyen, Hanoi Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Gold Medalist shared his joy, emotion and honor after winning the exam. Nguyen expressed his gratitude to the teachers who had worked hard to foster knowledge, imparting passion so that he and his friends could love the subject more and be eager to explore . He was grateful to his parents who worked day and night to take care of every meal and sleep, accompanying him during his study days. "This achievement is not an individual effort but the effort of both teachers and family," Nguyen said.
At the ceremony to welcome the victorious students back, Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, congratulated and recognized the achievements of the delegation that brought glory to the country.
"You are intellectual ambassadors, the pride of the capital and the country. The achievements of the students today will be a strong source of inspiration, spreading the passion for science and the will to constantly strive for the younger generation, while strongly affirming the position of Vietnamese education in the international arena," he said.
The leaders of the Department of Education and Training praised and recognized the results of the entire delegation and awarded certificates of merit and rewards to students and teachers.
