In response to information circulating on social networks causing doubts about the doctoral admission process, on October 9, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine officially announced, affirming that the case of candidate Au Nhat Huy (born 2001) was completely correct in procedure, transparent and with valid documents.
According to the school, the articles and comments on social media focused on the case of candidate Au Nhat Huy, along with many speculations about personal relationships and the transparency of the admission process. Considering that this information negatively affected the reputation of the school, the board of directors quickly took action to verify.
Immediately after learning about the incident, the school established a Working Group according to Decision No. 3983/QD-TĐHYKPNT dated October 6, 2025 to review the entire doctoral admission process in 2025.
Based on the report of the Working Group and the minutes of the Admissions Council meeting, the school concluded that the admission process was carried out seriously and in accordance with regulations from the notification stage, receiving applications, to reviewing exam eligibility.
The 2025 admissions exam has a total of 31 candidates in 4 majors: Surgery, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine and Otolaryngology. The entire process of thesis defense, scoring and approval of results is organized publicly, with full minutes of the council meeting.
Regarding the suspicion that the candidate’s relatives work at the school, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine said that it strictly followed the regulations. Specifically, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Khanh Tuong – mother of candidate Au Nhat Huy – did not participate in any stage of the council or activities of the 2025 postgraduate entrance exam, ensuring the principle of eliminating conflicts of interest.
Regarding the candidate's scientific research capacity, at the time of application, candidate Au Nhat Huy provided 8 scientific articles, including 5 domestic articles and 3 international articles listed in the Scopus catalog.
All of these articles are in the 2025 List of Scientific Journals to be Scored by the State Council of Professors. The candidate's total converted research experience score is 11 points, but according to the regulations, it is only counted for a maximum of 10 points, with an average total admission score of 88.8.
On October 8, the school received information that one of the candidate’s international articles had been withdrawn from the journal by the main author. After adjustment, the candidate’s application had 7 valid articles left. The converted research experience score was reduced to 9.5 points and the average total admission score was 88.3 points.
The Graduate Admissions Council met on October 9 and affirmed that this score adjustment does not change the admission result of candidate Au Nhat Huy. The candidate is still fully qualified and meets the standard score according to the regulations of the 2025 doctoral admission exam.
