Improving the quality of ethnic minority areas

On November 29, information from the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho province said that the system of ethnic boarding schools and semi-boarding schools has been positively changing the quality of education in ethnic minority areas in Phu Tho province.

Education in ethnic minority areas is being implemented by Phu Tho province in the direction of management innovation and sustainable development, in which digital transformation is identified as one of the important pillars.

The system of ethnic minority boarding schools and boarding schools in Phu Tho province has been strongly applying information technology in management and teaching and learning, contributing to narrowing the educational gap between advantaged and disadvantaged areas.

At Lac Son Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities, the classroom model applying information technology, digitalized lectures and learning software has created a more modern learning environment, helping ethnic minority students access knowledge quickly and effectively.

With the characteristics of boarding students, the school enhances self-study guidance on digital platforms, encourages group work, and shares documents on a shared learning resource library.

Along with the innovation of teaching and learning methods, professional management work is also standardized. The Board of Directors directs the development of professional plans in the direction of "digitalizing records", integrating interdisciplinary subjects, and innovating competency-based assessment. Teacher training is implemented through online training courses and open learning materials.

Mr. Ha Cong Khanh, Vice Principal in charge of Lac Son Ethnic Minority Secondary and High School, emphasized that enhancing professional training for staff and teachers is an important task contributing to improving the school's education quality.

The school's Board of Directors creates the most favorable conditions for teachers to improve their professional qualifications. At the same time, they do a good job of reviewing and classifying students, developing plans to train weak students and train good students suitable for the target group in order to improve the quality of comprehensive education.

Thanks to that, in the 2024-2025 school year, the percentage of students with good and fair academic performance reached 99.1, an increase of 10% over the same period last school year. The school's educational quality was improved with 38 excellent students at the provincial level and 29 excellent students at the district level. The high school graduation exam results reached 100%, with the average score ranking 2nd in the entire Hoa Binh province (old).

Improving boarding conditions for ethnic minority students

Along with improving the quality of education in ethnic minority areas, ethnic minority schools in Phu Tho province have promoted activities to care for the lives of ethnic minority students. Many educational institutions have invested in completing dormitories, cafeterias, and living facilities, meeting safety - hygiene - friendliness standards.

At Yen Thuy Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities, the dining area has been renovated, food safety control has been applied according to new standards, insect-proof screen doors have been added, and the kitchen system has been upgraded. The menu is built weekly, diverse and ensures nutrition. Dormitories and functional rooms have been repaired and equipped with additional equipment to serve learning and living activities.

The school maintains many cultural and sports clubs such as martial arts, volleyball, badminton, etc. to improve physical fitness, create a healthy boarding environment, and reduce the risk of violence and school social evils.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the school achieved over 90% good and excellent students; 24 students won provincial-level awards - the highest level ever; won 10 district- and provincial-level sports awards. In February 2025, the school was recognized as meeting national standards level 1.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho province, currently, the whole Phu Tho province has 43 boarding schools for ethnic minorities and boarding schools for ethnic minorities with nearly 280,000 ethnic minority students, accounting for nearly 30% of the total number of students in the province.

The Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho province and localities in the province have proactively consulted and proposed mechanisms and policies to support students in ethnic minority areas with difficult circumstances.

Especially for areas with difficult economic conditions in mountainous, remote and isolated communes. Many investment policies to care for educational development, improve the quality of education in ethnic minority areas, contributing to improving the quality of human resources of ethnic minorities have created a foundation for sustainable development, realizing the goal of improving the quality of human resources to contribute to promoting local socio-economic development.

Along with that, the Department of Education and Training of Phu Tho province has issued documents directing localities to strengthen the management of education quality based on data, promote the application of information technology, deploy digital lecture warehouses, and at the same time improve the capacity of teachers, especially ethnic minority teachers who understand indigenous culture.

It can be seen that the system of ethnic minority and ethnic minority boarding schools in Phu Tho plays a big role in mobilizing maximum school-age students, reducing the dropout rate... Thereby contributing to improving the quality of education, creating high-quality resources to contribute to promoting the building of a rich and civilized homeland.
