On November 7, the Faculty of Vietnamese Medicine, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine concluded the suspension of the recent Vietnamese Medicine program.
This faculty said that on October 22, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Vietnam-Germany Medical Faculty, along with representatives of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) - Federal Republic of Germany and parents and students of related courses had a discussion about stopping the training cooperation program after 2027.
According to the official announcement of JGU, the German National Institute for Medical and Pharmaceutical Examinations (IMPP) - the independent agency responsible for providing national exam questions for the M1 and M2 transition exams, has changed its policy and stopped providing exam questions outside of Germany from December 31, 2027.
This change made it impossible for the Mainz Medical Center, part of JGU, to continue organizing the M1 and M2 exams in Vietnam, leading to the cessation of the cooperation program from YVĐ2025.
However, students of YVĐ2023 and YVĐ2024 courses will not be affected and will continue to study and complete their registered training program.
The solution has been agreed upon between Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Vietnam-Germany Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Dr. Reinhard Urban (representative of Mainz Medical Center - JGU University), and representatives of parents of students of the two courses YVĐ2023 and YVĐ2024. The top priority is to continue maintaining the cooperation program in a new form. According to this plan, the units will negotiate with the Ministry of Education of Rheinland-Pfalz state (Federal Republic of Germany) to build an innovative training program, suitable for current conditions, and maintain the M2 exam.

The second option is to extend the M2 exam period to 2030 and will work directly with IMPP to extend the time to provide exam questions to Vietnamese-German medical students.
If the above two options are not feasible, the last option is to send students to take the M2 exam in Germany, under the auspices of Professor Reinhard Urban.
The school commits not to change the program or training time for Vietnamese-German medical students of the two courses YVĐ2023 and YVĐ2024; at the same time, it will continue to maintain the training program as committed and accompany the students until they complete the M2 and M3 exams within the legal framework. The school will soon notify students and parents in writing when there are specific results from the options under negotiation. All costs arising during the implementation of alternative options will be calculated and clearly disclosed.
According to Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, the suspension of the cooperation program by Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz was an unexpected incident for both sides. Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine did not unilaterally change its commitment and at the same time made every effort to ensure 100% of the original rights of the students. Prof. Dr. Reinhard Urban also affirmed that students of the YVĐ2023 and YVĐ2024 courses will still have the opportunity to practice their sixth year of clinical practice in Germany, although the implementation method may change.
