The 2025 International Mathematics Olympiad (PhIMO) and International Science Olympiad (IESO) will have the participation of more than 3,200 contestants from many countries and territories, including 1,700 competing directly in the Philippines and 1,500 competing in other countries at the end of September 2025. The award ceremony just took place in Cebu City (Philippines).
This is one of the largest academic events in the Asia- Pacific region, becoming a gathering place for the most outstanding young talents in the fields of mathematics and science.
PhIMO is an annual international mathematics competition for students from kindergarten to grade 12. The goal of the competition is to promote a love of mathematics, develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills, and create opportunities for academic and cultural exchange for students around the world. The content of the competition is diverse, covering areas of knowledge such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, probability - statistics, functions, applied mathematics and logic.
IESO is a prestigious international science competition that focuses on developing critical thinking skills, scientific creativity and applying knowledge to practice.
The exam content includes knowledge of life sciences, physical sciences, applied sciences, extending to modern topics such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence and medical technology. The highlight is that the exam applies an online platform monitored by artificial intelligence (AI), ensuring fairness, transparency and increasing international experience.

Notably, Hoang Khoi William, a 5th grade student at Singapore International School (SIS), won the Gold Medal and the title of First Runner Up; Phung Nguyen Minh Khang, an 8th grade student at BIS International School - Ho Chi Minh City, won the Gold Medal.
The Vietnamese student delegation attending the exam in the Philippines was led by teacher Cai Viet Long, Vice Principal of Thuong Thanh Secondary School (Hanoi), official representative of PhIMO & IESO in Vietnam and teacher Nguyen Dang Dung, Tay Tuu Secondary School (Hanoi).

Teacher Cai Viet Long shared: Mathematics and science are the key to solving global problems such as climate change, renewable energy, artificial intelligence and sustainable development. The achievements of Vietnamese students affirm that our young generation has enough intelligence, courage and aspiration to integrate and contribute to the international community.
In addition, more than 200 students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City participated in the direct competition at Thanh Xuan Trung Secondary School and Scotch South Australian Primary - Secondary - High School.
As a result, participating in the International Mathematical Olympiad, students won 38 gold medals, 39 silver medals, 64 bronze medals and 51 consolation prizes. With the International Science Olympiad, students won 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals.
In Vietnam, the exam is organized by Dr. Do Viet Tuan, Head of the Organizing Committee of PhIMO & IESO Vietnam, in coordination with many high schools and educational centers.

Mr. Do Viet Tuan commented that the achievements of the Vietnamese students are the pride of the education sector, the result of the persistent efforts of the students, the companionship of teachers and parents. This is the driving force for the STEM learning movement to spread more strongly in schools, contributing to preparing high-quality human resources for the digital age.
