The Vietnamese student delegation attending IMSO this year consists of 24 students, including 12 students in the math team and 12 students in the science team, most of whom are in grade 6.
In math , the Vietnamese team won 3 gold medals including Chung Minh Tien - Archimedes Secondary School, Nguyen Nhat Minh - Newton Secondary School, Nguyen Quang Vinh - Pascal Secondary School.
The rest of the math team won prizes with 7 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
In the science subject, Vietnamese students won 2 gold medals including Truong Duc Minh Khoi - Delta Global School and Vu Duc Huy - Newton Secondary School.
The rest of the science team also won prizes with 8 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
This year's IMSO competition has 23 delegations with 400 students participating, taking place from October 5 to 9 at Al-Bukhary International University, Kedah state.
The math exam revolves around five topics including arithmetic, geometry, data and measurement, probability and statistics, and recreational math.
Meanwhile, the science exam covers 16 topics, from human health to energy sources and the Solar System. The main language of the exam is English.
IMSO is an annual competition for students aged 13 and under to promote intellectual capacity and interest in STEM. The competition was initiated by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2003, when it was called AMSO - ASEAN Mathematics and Science Olympiad. Vietnam has sent students to participate since 2014.
Last year, the 21st IMSO was held in Wenzhou, China, attracting nearly 300 contestants from 18 delegations. The Vietnamese team came second, after Singapore. All Vietnamese students won prizes, including 9 gold medals. The 2026 IMSO will be held in Indonesia.
