“Unprecedented” scientific values

The excavation at Thang Long Imperial Citadel has discovered the most foundation and architectural relics compared to previous excavations. The architectural ruins have been stacked continuously for 13 centuries. The excavations at 18 Hoang Dieu and the National Assembly House area have found a complex of up to 53 traces of architectural foundations, 7 wall foundations, 6 wells, and millions of artifacts. Many of these artifacts later became National Treasures. Associate Professor, Dr. Tong Trung Tin, Chairman of the Vietnam Archaeological Association, affirmed: "The results obtained from this excavation are something that no one has ever imagined before."

The most important and outstanding achievement in the research of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site is the successful decoding of the architecture of the royal palace - the architectural quintessence of the Thang Long Capital. The important discovery and the "golden key" to decoding the architectural form of the palace is the architecture of the support and decoration of the roof, demonstrating the pinnacle of construction with wooden architecture. From this result, the Institute of Imperial Citadel Research has successfully simulated the architectural form of the palace of the Ly Dynasty and Kinh Thien Palace of the Early Le Dynasty using 3D technology, helping to visualize more clearly, feel more deeply the unique beauty, magnificence and massive scale of the architectural works in the ancient Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

Suggestions for the future

Associate Professor Dr. Bui Minh Tri, former Director of the Imperial Citadel Research Institute, proposed: “There needs to be a breakthrough investment in in-depth research, moving towards heritage restoration/recovery based on a reliable and authentic scientific basis. Those research results will be gradually built into a digital data platform, thereby creating a picture of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel heritage on digital technology platforms in the future.”

The cultural, historical, architectural, decorative art and construction technical values of Thang Long Imperial Citadel are gradually being clarified. This is the scientific basis for the restoration of other architectural works built in the past, and is also the input data for artificial intelligence (AI) on Thang Long Imperial Citadel to develop the cultural and tourism industry in the future.

The scientific information of Thang Long Imperial Citadel is the “raw material” for cultural industries, so that historical, cultural and artistic values shine in effective economic activities. Experts emphasize that it is necessary to pay special attention to exploiting the uniqueness, uniqueness and creativity in each specific product: Heritage cultural tours, interactive experiences, souvenir products - both popular and limited editions... to meet the needs of developing the tourism service market.

Effectively exploiting the value of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site will promote not only the cultural industry but also the tourism industry. In the opposite direction, through cultural industry products, the value of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site will spread to the world. The Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site can truly be “revived” not only in history but also become an attractive tourist and research destination.
