Vietnamese Language Exchange Competition for Preschool Children from Ethnic Minority Areas

On April 25th, the Department of Education and Training organized the Vietnamese Language Exchange Competition for preschool children from ethnic minority areas in Dak Lak province, for the 2024-2025 school year.

The competition involved 15 teams with over 150 participants, including officials, managers, preschool teachers, and kindergarten children (5-6 years old) from ethnic minority groups, representing 15 Education and Training Departments of districts, towns, and cities in the area.

The teams participated in three parts of the competition: Greetings (introducing the team members, their unit, the distinctive cultural features of their ethnic group and locality in Vietnamese; introducing the cooperation between the school, family, and community in nurturing, caring for, and educating preschool children); Talent (using Vietnamese to perform a talent show on topics suitable for preschool children); Knowledge (answering a multiple-choice question set on the content of the areas children have learned in the current Preschool Education Program).

According to the organizers, throughout the competition, the participating units demonstrated meticulous and serious preparation. The performances were well-invested in both content and presentation. The teams skillfully combined elements such as music , props, costumes, and illustrative scenes to effectively convey the Vietnamese message.

Each performance was a vivid, visually rich story that conveyed a clear educational message suitable for preschool children; the children demonstrated confidence and flexibility in language, and their performance style was natural and coherent.

In particular, the competing teams demonstrated flexibility, skill, and creativity in incorporating elements of national culture into their performances. The vivid recreation of everyday life, festivals, and folk games not only helped children understand and appreciate the Vietnamese language but also instilled a sense of pride in their national cultural identity.

At the conclusion of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the overall team flag to 6 units that achieved high results. The first prize went to the Department of Education and Training of Krông Năng district; second prize to the Department of Education and Training of Lắk district and Cư Kuin district; and third prize to the Departments of Education and Training of M'Đrắk, Krông Bông districts and Buôn Ma Thuột city.

In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded prizes to units that achieved high results in the competition. Accordingly, the first prize in the Greeting competition went to the Department of Education and Training of Krong Nang district; the first prize in the Talent competition went to the Department of Education and Training of Buon Ma Thuot city; and the two first prizes in the Knowledge competition went to the Department of Education and Training of Lak district and the Department of Education and Training of Cu Kuin district.

The competition is a valuable and practical platform for children to showcase their Vietnamese language skills; it's also an opportunity for teachers to share experiences and find effective teaching methods that are relatable and suitable for children in ethnic minority areas. Through this, it contributes to evaluating the current quality of the implementation of the Project "Strengthening Vietnamese language preparation for preschool and primary school children in ethnic minority areas based on their mother tongue" for the period 2021-2025.
