To respond promptly to the drought situation and ensure water resources for summer-autumn crop production, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a plan to respond to heatwaves, droughts, water shortages, and saltwater intrusion during the 2024 summer-autumn crop season.
The main content of the plan focuses on several solutions: organizing campaigns for irrigation work, clearing waterways, repairing and dredging canals and water intakes to ensure optimal water transfer, maintaining pumping stations to ensure readiness for irrigation, and preparing backup pumps for support pumping.

Implement rotational irrigation measures right from the beginning of the season, utilize return water sources in drainage channels, ponds, lakes, and streams for pumping water to serve land preparation and sowing, and store water in reservoirs for irrigation when needed.
Proactively build embankments to retain water in rice fields before the planting season, accumulate water in ponds, lakes, and reservoirs, and proactively designate areas to place mobile pumps for support when needed.
The basic water reserves from Ai Tu Lake will supplement the Tan Luong pumping station, ensuring water supply for Dong Ha City; and the water source from Tich Tuong Lake will supply the Quang Tri town water plant, providing water for people in the region. In areas with water sources and proximity to electricity, it is necessary to study and invest in building additional electric pumping stations for irrigation to combat drought in the short and long term.
Encourage localities to plant short-duration rice varieties to shorten irrigation time and save water.
For highland areas with difficult irrigation and no water pumping support, people should be encouraged to switch to other suitable and more efficient forms of production. Focus on implementing drought relief solutions for 3,286.46 hectares at risk of water shortage in the area.
The total funding for drought relief is 12.71 billion VND. Of this, 6.579 billion VND is provided by the Irrigation Works Management and Exploitation Company Limited, and 6.131 billion VND is provided by local authorities. The funding is allocated from the provincial budget, district budget, and other legally permitted sources.
