This morning, while enjoying a hot cup of coffee in the heart of Tan An City, Long An Province, my friend spontaneously said, "Let's go to Son Island, the weather's beautiful today!" So we quickly went home to pack our bags for the unexpected trip.

To reach Hon Son Island, visitors can choose to travel by bus, plane, or private vehicle to Rach Gia City and then take a speedboat to the island. At 2 PM, departing from Tan An City, we chose private transportation, taking the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong, Trung Luong - My Thuan, and Lo Te - Rach Soi expressways to arrive in Rach Gia City at 7 PM. The most impressive part was the section through An Giang province; the expressway wound through rice paddies , with glimpses of palm trees in the distance under the evening sun – so incredibly peaceful!

At night, Rach Gia bustles with activity in the reclaimed land area. The coastal roads sparkle with lights, and the sea breeze blows freely. Along the coast and surrounding areas, numerous cozy cafes provide an ideal setting to slow down and listen to the salty air of the sea.

At 6 a.m., the boat departed for Hon Son. Less than an hour later, we set foot on the pristine little island. The beauty of Hon Son lies not only in its long stretches of white sandy beaches and majestic mountains, but also in the simple, rustic life of its coastal inhabitants.

Kayaking is one of the fun things to do when visiting Hon Son Island.

Motorbikes are the only means of transportation on the island because Hon Son is only 11.5 ^km² with a paved road along the coast. The first destination on this impromptu trip to Hon Son was snorkeling to see coral reefs. Compared to the waters of Nha Trang or Phu Yen , coral reefs on Hon Son are scarce and difficult to spot, but with this service, tourists can enjoy swimming in the clear blue waters far from shore, snorkeling to see schools of colorful fish, and most interestingly, kayaking.

Hon Son Island is quite small; you can easily circle the entire island by motorbike in just over 30 minutes, with cliffs on one side and the vast ocean on the other. It would be a shame to visit without exploring Ma Thien Lanh. Hon Son is made up of seven mountains of varying sizes, with Ma Thien Lanh being the highest peak, towering majestically against the sky. The road leading to Ma Thien Lanh winds through ancient trees, offering a thrilling sense of discovery. To reach Ma Thien Lanh, visitors can either walk or hire a motorbike taxi to take them to the summit. It's a truly exciting experience as the motorbike traverses the winding road with sharp turns through the forest. Although the road is quite steep and treacherous, the magnificent natural scenery along the way is what captivates visitors. A word of caution: this experience is not suitable for the elderly or those with high blood pressure or heart conditions. From above, the entire island of Hon Son unfolds, with houses nestled among coconut trees, small boats anchored at the harbor, and curving coastlines embracing the island... all creating a magnificent natural landscape. At Ma Thien Lanh, visitors can also enjoy the famous grilled wild chicken, a dish whose rich flavor is unforgettable for anyone who has tried it.

Hon Son Island is famous for its picturesque beaches, including Bai Bang, Bai Nha, Bai Gieng, and more. Bai Bang is definitely a must-visit destination.
