Vinh Binh Shrimp-Rice Cooperative is on the path to development.

Having been in operation for over 7 years, the Vinh Binh Shrimp-Rice Cooperative in Vinh Tuy commune has helped its members develop their economy, stabilize their lives, and improve their living standards.

Actively support production

Initially, the cooperative was just a small group with 5 members. Recognizing the effectiveness of the business model, the number of members gradually increased. In 2018, the cooperative was officially established. Abundant human resources have contributed to the cooperative's growing strength. To date, the cooperative has 38 members and a production area of ​​nearly 140 hectares. The average annual output of shrimp and rice supplied to the market is over 100 tons, generating billions of dong in revenue. After deducting expenses, the average annual income of members is over 100 million dong per hectare.

Mr. Tran Van Truong, Director of Vinh Binh Shrimp-Rice Cooperative, said: “In recent years, to create favorable conditions for members to have capital for production, the cooperative has mobilized revolving capital contributions. Every month, each member contributes 200,000 VND, and to date, the cooperative has capital of over 600 million VND. Members facing economic difficulties are prioritized to receive capital first, with a maximum support of 20 million VND per member, at an interest rate of 0.5% per month.”

This capital has helped many members invest in purchasing breeding stock, animal feed, agricultural supplies, equipment, and expanding production scale. Cao Vu Linh, a member of the cooperative for 5 years, shared: “The cooperative provided a loan of 20 million VND, which I used to buy additional machinery for production. Thanks to this, shrimp and rice yields were less wasted, and productivity increased. After just the first harvest, my family repaid the loan. Our family's economic situation has gradually improved, we've built a spacious house, and we have additional capital to rent land for production.”

Along with developing human resources and capital, the cooperative focuses on supporting members in accessing scientific and technical advancements. Previously, Mr. Su Huu Binh's family cultivated shrimp and rice, but lacked expertise in the process, resulting in low yields. "Since joining the cooperative, I have received training in rice cultivation and shrimp farming techniques, reducing risks and losses in the production process. Shrimp and rice yields are high, and the market is stable. Cultivating on 2 hectares of land, after deducting expenses, I earn over 200 million VND per year, and my family's life is becoming increasingly prosperous," Mr. Binh shared.

Unity for economic development

The Vinh Binh Shrimp-Rice Cooperative holds regular meetings on the 1st of every month. At each meeting, members share experiences on selecting shrimp breeds, stocking density, pond hygiene, planting times, disease prevention for shrimp and rice, etc., so that everyone can learn from each other. Shrimp harvesting is done manually, requiring 20-40 people each time. Families harvesting shrimp only need to let them know, and everyone enthusiastically helps. They help harvest shrimp for one family today, and another family tomorrow, assisting each other from one season to the next. The men wade through the fields to catch shrimp, while the women sort them. Each person has a task, dividing it among themselves and coordinating smoothly.

In addition, they also help renovate the ponds, transport the shrimp fry, and transfer the shrimp... After the work is done, everyone sits down to celebrate, sharing experiences about the past harvest, thus strengthening community bonds. Mr. Vo Quoc Khoi - a member of the cooperative - shared: "With everyone's help in harvesting shrimp, my family doesn't have to worry every time the harvest season comes. Thanks to that, I save on labor costs and increase profits."

With the results achieved, the Vinh Binh shrimp-rice cooperative will continue to develop and attract more members. The spirit of solidarity helps the cooperative develop its economy, build a brand for its distinctive local products, and contribute to promoting sustainable collective economic development.
