Actively support production

Initially, the cooperative was only a small cooperative with 5 members. Realizing the effectiveness of the business model, the number of participating members gradually increased. In 2018, the cooperative was established. Abundant human resources contributed to the increasingly strong development of the cooperative. Up to now, the cooperative has 38 members, with a production area of nearly 140 hectares. The average output of shrimp and rice supplied to the market is more than 100 tons/year, achieving revenue of billions of VND. After deducting expenses, the average annual income of members is over 100 million VND/ha.

Mr. Tran Van Truong - Director of Vinh Binh Shrimp - Rice Cooperative said: "In recent years, to create conditions for members to have capital for production, the Cooperative has mobilized revolving capital contributions. Every month, each member contributes 200,000 VND, and up to now, the Cooperative has capital of over 600 million VND. Members with economic difficulties are given priority to receive capital first, with a maximum support of 20 million VND/member, with an interest rate of 0.5%/month".

This capital has helped many members invest in buying breeds, animal feed, agricultural materials, investing in equipment, and expanding production scale. Mr. Cao Vu Linh, who has been participating in the cooperative for 5 years, shared: “The cooperative supported a loan of 20 million VND, so I bought more machinery for production. Thanks to that, shrimp and rice output was less lost, and productivity increased. After only the first crop, my family paid off the loan. The family's economy gradually improved, we built a spacious house and had more capital to rent land for production.”

Along with developing human resources and capital, the Cooperative focuses on supporting members in accessing scientific and technical advances. Previously, Mr. Su Huu Binh's family cultivated shrimp and rice, but did not fully understand the process, so productivity was not achieved. "Since joining the Cooperative, I have been trained in rice and shrimp farming techniques, the production process has less risk and loss. Shrimp and rice have high productivity, stable output. Cultivating on 2 hectares of land, after deducting expenses, earning a profit of more than 200 million VND/year, my family's life is increasingly prosperous," Mr. Binh shared.

Solidarity for economic development

Vinh Binh Shrimp - Rice Cooperative holds regular meetings on the 1st of every month. At each meeting, members share experiences in choosing shrimp breeds, stocking density, pond hygiene, planting time, disease prevention for shrimp, rice, etc. for members to learn together. Shrimp are harvested manually, each time requiring 20 - 40 people. Any household harvesting shrimp only needs to let them know, everyone is there to enthusiastically help. Today, help harvest shrimp for this family, tomorrow they go to another family, helping each other from one crop to another. Men wade in the fields to catch shrimp, women in the family sort shrimp. Each person has a job, dividing it among themselves, coordinating smoothly.

In addition, they also help renovate ponds, transport seeds, transfer shrimp... After finishing the work, everyone sits together to celebrate, share experiences about the past crop, thanks to which the neighborhood relationship becomes tighter and more cohesive. Mr. Vo Quoc Khoi - a member of the cooperative shared: "With everyone's help harvesting shrimp, my family doesn't have to worry every time the season comes. Thanks to that, I save on labor costs and increase profits."

With the results achieved, Vinh Binh Shrimp - Rice Cooperative will develop more and more, attracting more members to participate. The spirit of solidarity helps the Cooperative develop the economy, build a brand of typical local products, contributing to promoting sustainable collective economic development.
