Israel launches missiles at Syrian capital.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense said Israel fired missiles at multiple targets on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, killing and injuring several civilians.

The missiles were launched from the direction of the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights at 1 p.m. Damascus time, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said on January 29. The ministry initially stated that the attack killed "several Iranian advisers," but later retracted that information.

Iran's Tasnim news agency reported that the Israeli strike hit an "Iranian military advisory center" in the Sayyida Zeinab area, on the outskirts of Damascus, but Iran's ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, denied this. He also asserted that "no Iranian citizens or advisors" were killed in the attack.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that Israel attacked a military base operated by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Hezbollah militant group, killing seven people, including pro-Tehran fighters.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense has not commented on the information.

Since the Syrian civil war broke out in 2011, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted hundreds of raids targeting government and pro-Iranian forces in Syria, aiming to prevent Tehran from expanding its influence in the region.

The number of attacks increased sharply after the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted in late October last year, amid Tel Aviv's accusations that Iran was backing the armed group in the Gaza Strip.

On January 20, Israel launched another attack on a building used by Iranian advisers in Damascus, killing five IRGC officers, including an intelligence operations commander. The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack, stating it would retaliate against Tel Aviv "at the appropriate time and place."
