Russia has approved the launch of the Kh-102 nuclear missile.

During the three-day joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus aimed at preparing for the use of strategic nuclear forces (SNF), the launch of Kh-102 cruise missiles carrying thermonuclear warheads may be conducted.

Military expert Dmitry Kornev provided information about the potential use of this particular type of missile in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.

Kornev said the exercise would include launching Yars missiles from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome toward the Kura test range in Kamchatka. The naval component of the nuclear triad would include submarines capable of launching Bulava or Sineva ballistic missiles, as well as Kalibr cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads.

Notably, according to Kornev, Tu-95MS and Tu-160M ​​strategic bombers carrying missiles will practice launching the highly accurate Kh-102 missile during joint exercises, a strong deterrent move from Russia to its adversaries.

The Kh-102 is the nuclear-powered version of the well-known Kh-101 cruise missile.

The Kh-102 is an advanced cruise missile developed to replace the older Kh-55 (AS-15 Kent) used on Russian strategic bombers such as the Tu-160 and Tu-95MS.

This is one of the most effective and advanced cruise missiles in the world , capable of stealth, flying at subsonic speeds, and operating at low altitudes.

The Kh-102 corrects its flight path using the GLONASS satellite navigation system along with an inertial navigation system (INS). In addition, the missile is assisted by an electro-optical seeker with "image matching" technology for very high accuracy.

According to the manufacturer, the Kh-102's target error is only about 5-10m, an excellent parameter for a missile with a range of thousands of kilometers and integrated with a thermonuclear warhead with an explosive yield of up to 250kT, possessing immense destructive power.
