On June 1st, US President Donald Trump announced on social media that Israel and Hezbollah had agreed to reduce fighting, following a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israeli forces recently launched their deepest advance into Lebanese territory in over 25 years. Trump stated that no Israeli soldiers would be going to Beirut and that those en route had been stopped.
He also said Hezbollah had agreed that all shelling would cease. Accordingly, "Israel will not attack them, and they will not launch airstrikes against Israel."
Netanyahu confirmed the phone call but dismissed it not as a show of restraint but as a warning. He assured President Trump that Israel would attack targets in Beirut, Lebanon, if Hezbollah's airstrikes did not stop. Israeli troops would continue their planned operations in southern Lebanon, Netanyahu added.
Lebanon declared a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel on June 1, signifying a limited de-escalation in a conflict that has killed thousands and exacerbated the US-Israel conflict with Iran.

According to the Lebanese embassy in Washington, the agreement will not end the conflict in Lebanon, but it calls on Israel to refrain from attacks on Beirut and Hezbollah-controlled suburbs. Meanwhile, Hezbollah – an armed group linked to Iran – will cease airstrikes against Israel.
On the same day, June 1st, the Lebanese government announced that Hezbollah was ready to accept a comprehensive ceasefire agreement with Israel. This move comes amid escalating tensions in Lebanon, raising concerns about the risk of a wider conflict in the region.
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Hezbollah had informed the US that it was ready to accept a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire with Israel, and pledged to ensure its implementation.
The information comes amid escalating fighting in Lebanon, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned he would expand attacks on Beirut if Hezbollah continued to target Israeli residential areas.
In related developments, the United Nations expressed deep concern over the escalating military situation in southern Lebanon and called on all parties to respect the ceasefire and avoid actions that could further increase tensions.
