Connecting port and logistics systems to seize new opportunities.

With its comprehensive transportation infrastructure including roads, inland waterways, air, rail, and seaports; its existing industrial base and ample development space, Dong Nai City has the foundation to gradually develop into a modern logistics city, enhance its competitiveness, and affirm its role as a crucial transshipment and goods coordination center in the Southern key economic region.

In particular, promoting the development of port services and strengthening linkages for the development of green and sustainable logistics services at the local level will contribute to the development of the port service ecosystem and the economic development of the locality, especially in the context of Dong Nai having become a city.

Building a logistics ecosystem

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the city's logistics system has developed strongly in recent years, with approximately 439 transport businesses and nearly 40,000 cargo transport vehicles, including more than 4,300 container trucks directly serving import and export activities.

The approximately 200km long inland waterway system is a major advantage for developing low-cost logistics. According to the Dong Nai Seaport Development Plan until 2030, the city's seaport system is oriented to achieve a cargo throughput of 39.5-52 million tons per year. In particular, Dong Nai plans 14 key logistics centers and 12 inland ports within the city. Among these are four regional logistics centers around Long Thanh Airport: the logistics center south of Long Thanh International Airport; the logistics center north of Long Thanh International Airport; the Eastern transshipment warehouse logistics center; and the Phuoc An Port logistics service area logistics center.

In the coming period, Dong Nai will continue to promote the development of logistics centers, warehousing systems, ICDs, and connecting transportation services to gradually form a complete logistics ecosystem linked to the city's logistics gateways. Dong Nai also aims to strongly attract logistics businesses, infrastructure investors, and support service providers to participate in developing the local logistics chain.

At a seminar themed "Accompanying the Sea to Embrace New Opportunities" in May 2026, Nguyen Ngoc Thuc, Head of the Trade Management Department of the Dong Nai City Department of Industry and Trade, shared: Dong Nai is the 7th city in the country with many favorable foundational conditions such as: an economy among the leading in the country, a large industrial park, a large system of import-export enterprises, and especially strategic infrastructure that is being strongly and synchronously invested in. Key projects such as Long Thanh International Airport, the expressway system, inter-regional connecting ring roads, and the logistics corridor connecting the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster are gradually forming a complete logistics infrastructure network for the region.

In that development strategy, logistics is identified as one of the key infrastructure pillars of a modern city. Developing new logistics gateways, promoting multimodal transport, and building a synchronized logistics ecosystem not only serves immediate economic development goals but is also a crucial component in the roadmap to elevate Dong Nai's development in the future.

“The Department of Industry and Trade will continue to closely coordinate with the import-export business community, logistics businesses in the area, as well as shipping companies and forwarders (transportation and delivery service providers) to promote the development of a more modern, synchronized, and efficient logistics ecosystem in the future,” Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuc further shared.

According to Nguyen Duy Hung, Standing Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Logistics Association: The formation of a logistics ecosystem, optimizing the supply chain, will create conditions to promote the development of the port and logistics system to seize new opportunities in Dong Nai, especially in the context of Dong Nai becoming a city with increasingly developed infrastructure. The locality should take advantage of the Dong Nai river system to develop logistics centers, ports, and inland container depots (ICDs), including Phuoc An Port - the largest seaport in Dong Nai. At the same time, the locality needs to strengthen the development of the port system, promote administrative procedure reforms in the field of logistics, import and export... thereby creating conditions to optimize costs in the goods supply chain, aiming to build a professional, modern and sustainable logistics community in the locality.

Elevating the supply chain

According to experts, to promote the integration of port services and logistics, localities, including Dong Nai, need solutions to promote science and technology , link the port service chain, support transportation, develop human resources, and accelerate green transformation and sustainable development in the context of increasingly deep integration. In particular, developing green logistics is an inevitable trend and a crucial criterion for evaluating the sustainable development of the entire logistics industry.

In the context of significant changes and restructuring in global supply chains, the development of new, modern, flexible, and efficient connection points has become essential. With its strategic location in Dong Nai province, coupled with a comprehensive planning orientation for transportation and logistics infrastructure, Phuoc An Port is identified as a crucial link in the port network and supply chain of the Southern region.

According to Mr. Truong Hoang Hai, Director of Phuoc An Port Investment and Exploitation Joint Stock Company: "In recent times, the strategic cooperation with Saigon Newport Corporation - a leading port operator in Vietnam - has opened a new direction for Phuoc An Port. This connection is not simply a cooperation in exploitation, but a linkage within an integrated logistics ecosystem - where the capabilities, experience, and network of Saigon Newport Corporation combine with the development potential of Phuoc An Port to create more value for customers, shipping lines, and import-export businesses."

In the coming period, Phuoc An Port will continue to improve service quality according to professional and transparent standards, promote the application of technology in operation and management, and expand connections with domestic ports, ICDs, and logistics systems… for sustainable development.

Colonel Bui Van Quy, Deputy Commander of the 20th Army Corps and Deputy General Director of Saigon Newport Corporation, shared: Saigon Newport Corporation is always steadfast in its goal of developing an integrated and synchronized port-logistics ecosystem model, with customers at the center, system connectivity as the foundation, service quality as its reputation, and supply chain efficiency as its long-term pursuit. In the current context, the requirement is not just to operate a port effectively, but to reorganize the service space, redistribute cargo flows, and link the "links" in the entire system to create greater, more flexible, and more sustainable service capacity.

Therefore, the cooperation between Saigon Newport Corporation and Phuoc An Port is a strategic step in expanding operational space, increasing cargo handling capacity, and completing the port and logistics ecosystem in the Southern key economic region…
