The United Nations has just called for more than $4 billion in humanitarian aid to deal with food insecurity in Syria.
UN humanitarian coordinator Adam Abdelmoula warned that funding had almost dried up and a lack of support would push more Syrians to migrate. About 12,9 million people are food insecure nationwide. Failure to act means at least 2,5 million children will lose the opportunity to return to school, and about 2,3 million women of reproductive age could lose access to maternal health care services. Mothers and children matter.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the ongoing conflict has forced about 14 million people to flee their homes. The situation in Syria is considered to be worsening in most areas and is at risk of going out of control.
