According to historical records, after abdicating the throne, King Tran Thai Tong traveled to the An Khang region. Enchanted by the majestic mountains, numerous caves, and the winding Ngo Dong River flowing like a silk ribbon into the mountain caves, the king decided to settle there.
Therefore, King Tran Thai Tong ordered the construction of a small hermitage inside the Ca Cave, but due to the narrow and inconvenient location, he chose a spacious plot of land outside the southern side of the cave, with beautiful scenery, lush trees, and a dragon-shaped terrain, to build a hermitage for meditation and named it Thai Vi Hermitage.
Initially, the population was sparse, living in clusters and hamlets, hence the name O Lam. The king then recruited people to establish settlements, encouraged them to reclaim barren land, and develop agriculture.
After Tran Thai Tong's death, his eldest son, King Tran Thanh Tong, had a statue erected for worship at Thai Vi Temple, provided money and land for incense offerings, and established this as a national custom.

Thai Vi Temple is a sacred temple in Ninh Binh . It is dedicated to the kings of the Tran dynasty and famous generals who made great contributions in repelling foreign invaders and protecting the country, especially during the three resistance wars against the Mongol invaders in the 13th century.
During the resistance war against French colonialism, Thai Vi Temple also served as a hiding place for weapons of our army and people. The temple was classified as a national historical and artistic relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in 1994.

The temple is closely associated with the history of the Tran Dynasty, dedicated to King Tran Thai Tong, Empress Hien Tu Thuan Thien, King Tran Thanh Tong, Tran Nhan Tong, Tran Anh Tong, and the talented generals of the Tran Dynasty, including Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan and Chieu Minh Dai Vuong Tran Quang Khai.
For over 700 years, the 15th day of the third lunar month has become a traditional festival day at Thai Vi Temple, featuring traditional rituals such as incense offering and sacrificial ceremonies. In addition to the solemn ceremonies, visitors can also enjoy unique folk art performances.

As an important cultural and spiritual event of the ancient capital region, the Thai Vi Temple Festival in 2026 took place in a solemn atmosphere. In particular, the parade of traditional costumes from the Tran Dynasty created a vibrant and colorful spectacle, attracting a large number of locals and tourists.
The Thai Vi Temple Festival in 2026 is also an opportunity to remind people of the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" and to express gratitude for the contributions of our ancestors and forefathers who bravely sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the nation.
