According to Mr. Huynh Chi Cuong, in charge of the Sa Huynh Culture Exhibition House, An Khe Lagoon is the largest lagoon in Quang Ngai province, located in the coastal area of Sa Huynh, bordering Pho Khanh and Pho Thanh communes (Duc Pho district). The lagoon has a surface area of 347 hectares, with its longest length measuring 3.5 km and its widest width about 1 km.

The lagoon has water all year round, with the deepest point reaching 4 meters.

According to geologists, An Khe lagoon was formed during the sea regression period following the Flandrian maximum sea transgression 6,000-7,000 years ago and became a freshwater lagoon about 3,000-4,000 years ago.

The waters of An Khe lagoon provide a suitable habitat for many aquatic species.

Aquatic life in the lagoon mainly consists of freshwater species such as crucian carp, snakehead fish, goby, common carp, eel, grass carp, silver carp, shrimp, snails, tilapia, etc.

According to Mr. Huynh Chi Cuong, researchers believe that An Khe Lagoon is the most important link in the origin, development, and spread of the Sa Huynh culture in the past. It also served as a source of freshwater for daily life, fishing, and agricultural production for the ancient Sa Huynh community.

"Around the An Khe lagoon area, there are many historical and cultural relics. Not far from An Khe lagoon is Vung Bang, a coastal area with stunning natural scenery."

"North of An Khe lagoon, in Phu Long village, Pho Khanh commune, there are traces of a stone bridge, called Phu Long stone bridge, a structure of the ancient Champa people. Adjacent to Vung Bang, southeast of An Khe lagoon, is an ancient stone-paved road crossing a mountain that the locals call Bo Mountain...", Mr. Cuong introduced.

Ms. Xi has over 40 years of experience as a fisherwoman. Since An Khe Lagoon became a prominent tourist destination in Quang Ngai province, Ms. Xi has taken on a new profession – that of a boat driver. Many local people have also adopted this new path, just like Ms. Xi.

Sharing his thoughts with a reporter from TG&VN , Pham Duc Anh, a cameraman at NHK Television in Vietnam, felt that with its rare historical and cultural value and stunning natural landscape, An Khe Lagoon will be a favorite destination for many domestic and international tourists. Here, visitors will feel relaxed amidst the rustic and peaceful atmosphere.
