Exploring the forest will make you love nature even more.

For a day, escaping the dusty and suffocating city, a group of middle and high school students ventured deep into the regenerated forest, exploring the woodlands of the Dong Nai Cultural and Natural Reserve.

The Green Angel Scholarship program, organized by the Gaia Nature Conservation Center, helps young people learn more about forest ecosystems and connect with nature. This fosters a greater sense of responsibility in their life choices, leading to environmental protection and sustainable development.

The forest embraces, the forest protects.

There are many reasons why each of you joined this journey. Nguyen Le Bao Truc (11th grade, Truong Chinh High School, Ho Chi Minh City) said she realized many people are unaware of the immense impact of nature on life, so she wanted to learn more and spread the message of environmental protection to more people, emphasizing the need to preserve and plant more forests.

Meanwhile, Kieu Gia Cuong (9th grade student at Vo Truong Toan Secondary School, Dong Nai province) chose to go into the forest to breathe fresh air, improve his health, and relax after tiring days of studying.

Tran Do Quyen (12th grade, Ben Tre Specialized High School, Ben Tre province) said that she had participated in many extracurricular activities related to environmental protection and climate change, but the fact that she had never had the opportunity to explore the forest was a major shortcoming.

The tour included guides who provided information about each type of tree and animal living in the forest. Witnessing the sunlight sparkling through the leaves, seeing a spider busily spinning its web, or thousands of termites crawling densely on giant tree trunks... all captivated and amazed these city dwellers.

The only sounds the group could hear were the chirping of cicadas, insects, and the rustling of leaves with each step. The air was incredibly fresh, with no motorbike engine noise.

Bao Truc said she always felt the forest was a living entity, where the trees seemed to move, listen to anyone's innermost thoughts, and want to embrace and protect everyone.

Spreading out a tarp, everyone sat down to enjoy grilled chicken with chili and salt, sticky rice with sesame seeds and salt, roasted peanuts with salt... amidst the vast expanse of green trees and leaves.

Experiencing lunch in the forest for the first time, Gia Cuong was moved: "Having lunch in the forest, smelling the plants and trees, so different from the suffocating concrete walls I'm used to, freed me from fatigue and made me feel incredibly comfortable. This feeling is worth much more than being in a luxurious restaurant."

Entering the forest is like stepping into another world, free from dust and pollution, with only the buzzing of cicadas creating a completely secluded and private atmosphere.

Young people will contribute to changing the future.

Ms. Do Thi Thanh Huyen, founder and CEO of the Gaia Nature Conservation Center, said that the organization is currently running many reforestation and nature experience programs with businesses. She mentioned that many people are worried about their children and discussing the possibility of artificial intelligence (AI) replacing jobs in the future when technology dominates.

However, there are skills that AI cannot replace humans in, such as emotional intelligence, which, according to Ms. Huyen, can be developed through interaction with nature. Research proves that when we interact with nature, love plants and small animals around us, we will develop emotions towards the things that happen in life and society.

By observing what is happening and reflecting on people's actions to discern right from wrong and make informed decisions, one can develop leadership skills and critical thinking.

"Gaia always tells stories about nature to young people, helping them see the beautiful and interesting things. Once we understand, we will love each branch and blade of grass even more when we know their uses in human life," Ms. Huyen shared.

The Green Angel Scholarship helps students learn about sustainable development, explore and experience a typical tropical dry forest, home to one of the last remaining elephant herds in Vietnam, to understand the immense value as well as the challenges of forests.

You will connect more with nature through challenging jungle treks, conquering tunnels, visiting specimens of rare wild animals and plants, experiencing counting, photographing, and assessing the growth of forest trees...

This scholarship is not only for high school students but also for university students, aiming to inspire and spread more love and responsibility towards nature among young people. Like the name Gaia in Greek mythology, meaning Mother Earth, the Green Angel scholarship hopes that young people will contribute to changing the future and the world, especially in relation to nature.

Put more faith in young people.

One of the advantages is that the world is now talking more about nature, and young people are also more interested. Research shows that Gen Z is willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products.

The current wave of technology and social media has given young people more concerns. Gaia wants to keep up with the trend of applying technology while also finding new ways to communicate, quickly and accurately sending messages about environmental issues, approaching them sustainably, not superficially following trends.

Before the trip, Ms. Thanh Huyen said she was quite concerned about whether young people, being students, would have enough concern for the environment and nature. However, throughout the journey, listening to the students ask questions about the environment, she said she went from one surprise to another.

"You all have a very deep connection with nature, which further strengthens my belief in young people, and makes me believe that they will contribute to solving many environmental problems in the future," Ms. Huyen shared.
