The leaders of Dong Nai province are focusing on surveying and directing departments, agencies, and localities to research and propose planning options around Tri An Lake, with the aim of forming a chain of industrial, logistics, and tourism service linkages.
National tourism zone planning points of Vietnam
In 2024, the Prime Minister approved the National Tourism System Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045. According to the plan, the Tri An Lake area in Dong Nai province is included in the list of potential locations for developing a national tourism area. This is one of the advantages for Tri An Lake to develop in accordance with the direction and overall planning of the Government.
The Conservation Area has a total natural area of over 100,000 hectares, of which Tri An Lake covers over 32,500 hectares, with the remainder being forest land. For many years, Tri An Lake has been an ideal tourist destination for both domestic and international visitors. Due to its unique location amidst the vast green forest of the Conservation Area, along with the Tri An Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Tri An Lake area has a unique landscape, attracting an increasing number of tourists to visit and experience cycling around the lake combined with forest exploration; paddleboarding on Tri An Lake; and enjoying Tri An Lake specialties such as dried catfish and delicious dishes made from snakehead fish…

Besides its natural values, the Conservation Area also possesses many cultural and historical values with landmarks such as: the Central Committee Base of the Southern Region (War Zone D), the Southern Regional Party Committee, Rang Waterfall, and the Chơro ethnic minority village with its distinctive cultural features, which further enhance the Conservation Area's potential for ecotourism, cultural tourism, and historical tourism.
Finding a new direction for Tri An Lake.
Sharing information on the progress of the Ecotourism, Resort, and Recreation Project of the Conservation Area for the period 2021-2030, the Director of the Conservation Area, Nguyen Hoang Hao, said: To date, 12 investors have expressed interest in investing in tourism projects under the province's plan. After reviewing the applications, all investors meet the criteria for leasing forest land for tourism development. However, due to changes in regulations, the signing of forest land lease agreements has not yet been completed. It is expected that in early 2026, the Conservation Area will organize the signing of forest land lease agreements with several potential partners who meet the conditions to participate in developing tourism projects under the Conservation Area's overall tourism plan.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hao expressed his hope that, with the close guidance of the provincial People's Committee leaders and the participation and support from various departments and agencies, the Tri An Lake Master Plan project would be implemented soon. This is an important basis for the Conservation Area and the localities related to Tri An Lake to plan a specific space, meeting the criteria of a national tourist destination as proposed by the Prime Minister.
At the end of 2023, the Provincial People's Committee approved the Ecotourism, Resort, and Entertainment Project for the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve for the period 2021-2030. To date, the project has attracted the attention of many investors, including several who have registered and are awaiting the signing of cooperation agreements to soon implement the project.
With the aim of guiding the development of ecotourism in Dong Nai province and contributing to the formation of an industrial-logistics-tourism service linkage chain, on December 24th, a survey team from the Provincial People's Committee, led by Mr. Nguyen Van Ut, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, along with representatives from various departments, agencies, and localities, conducted a survey to find proposed solutions for implementing the planning around Tri An Lake in the future. Assessing the potential, advantages, and development directions of the province, Chairman Nguyen Van Ut emphasized: Given its role in providing clean water to over 10 million people in Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City, preserving and protecting the water resources of Tri An Lake is crucial. However, Tri An Lake also possesses many other significant values that need to be promoted and exploited.
According to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, in the coming time, the province will reorient the use of Tri An Lake for multi-functional and multi-purpose purposes, not only serving the freshwater needs of people in the downstream area of the Dong Nai River but also exploiting other fields such as: ecotourism; tourist areas and attractions on the islands; and green energy exploitation (solar energy). Chairman Nguyen Van Ut affirmed that all planning is carried out with the spirit of protecting clean water sources to serve the people in the downstream area.
