Over four days (from October 23rd to 26th), the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lang Son province, in coordination with the Cardiovascular Center of E Hospital in Hanoi, organized a free cardiovascular examination program for children under 16 years old in Lang Son city and several districts.

Free heart disease screening for children in Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city.

To facilitate parents bringing their children for examination, doctors and medical staff from the Cardiovascular Center, E Hospital in Hanoi, organized in-class cardiac screening for children at educational institutions and at district and city health centers.

This meaningful program has provided opportunities for poor and economically disadvantaged families in remote areas and ethnic minority communities in Lang Son province to receive early screening and diagnosis of heart disease symptoms for timely treatment and intervention, resulting in a large number of people bringing their children to the heart examination points...

After taking her 4-year-old son, Vu Trung Kien, for a screening and ultrasound, and learning that he did not have any cardiovascular disease, Ms. Nong Thuy Trang (Hoang Dong commune, Lang Son city) was very happy and relieved.

Ms. Trang commented that this program is very practical. Through visits and screenings, many children with illnesses have been detected early and treated promptly, preventing the disease from progressing to a severe stage.

Upon receiving the ultrasound results showing that her 10-year-old son, Pham Manh Cuong, does not have any cardiovascular disease, Ms. Nong Thi Tuyet (Hoang Van Thu ward, Lang Son city) felt overjoyed.

Ms. Tuyet said that the program of free cardiovascular examinations and consultations for children under 16 years old is very meaningful for all families, especially for poor and near-poor households, people in disadvantaged areas, and ethnic minority communities, because they have limited means to take their children for regular medical check-ups.

According to Dr. Bui Quang Huy, Deputy Head of the Pediatric Cardiology Department at the Cardiovascular Center of E Hospital in Hanoi, over 8,000 children were examined by doctors and medical staff over the past four days. As a result, more than 10 cases requiring surgery were identified, and another 10 cases showing signs of cardiovascular disease are being further monitored.

This is the 14th year that the Cardiovascular Center of E Hospital in Hanoi has implemented a program of free cardiovascular examinations and consultations for children under 16 years old in Lang Son province.

In fact, screenings have shown that the number of untreated children with heart disease in this locality is decreasing. For children who are indicated for surgery but whose families are facing economic difficulties or are eligible for government assistance, they will be guided through the application process to receive free surgical financial support.

Dr. Bui Quang Huy, a Master's degree holder and physician, advises that to detect and treat heart disease early, people should take their children to medical facilities for screening for congenital heart defects, especially in cases with symptoms such as cyanosis, shortness of breath, recurrent pneumonia, stunted growth, and developmental delays.
