Desire to grow with Jujitsu

Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc is the pride of the Jujitsu team and Thanh Hoa sports .

Orphaned from a young age, Thanh Truc's mother recently passed away due to cancer. Truc was raised by her grandmother when her two brothers had to leave home to make a living.

While teaching at Pham Van Hinh Secondary School, realizing that Truc had a talent for sports, physical education teacher Pham Ba Viet paid close attention and guided her. Then, he introduced her to the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center when Truc was in 8th grade. Starting in 2019, Truc officially left home to pursue a professional sports career with wrestling. In 2021, the Jujitsu department was established, the Jujitsu coaching board saw that she was suitable for the new subject, so they encouraged her to switch from wrestling. However, the road to glory is never smooth and full of roses. For martial arts athletes, behind the moment of sublimation on the competition floor, the overwhelming happiness when receiving a medal is the hard work, hard training with so much sweat, tears and even danger.

Sharing about her journey to becoming a professional athlete, Truc said that at first when she was called to the team, she was very excited and curious. However, when she officially entered the professional training period, she experienced all the difficulties and challenges of this sport. Before important tournaments, Truc had to follow a strict diet and practice intensely for 6-8 hours a day - something that not every girl can do. With the time and strict training content, injuries have also become an indispensable part of this female athlete.

Up to now, martial arts teams have rarely had talent in the major weight classes. However, these weight classes are the strength of Thanh Hoa high-performance sports. By discovering, nurturing and training Truc early in the over-70kg weight class, it has brought Vietnamese sports a talent, a new hope to reach the heights of Jujitsu. Competing in the over-70kg weight class, she has overcome her self-consciousness about her "oversized" body compared to many other female friends to dedicate herself to sports.

Before being called up to the national Jujitsu team, Truc weighed up to 120kg, forcing the coaching staff to create a strict weight loss program and thanks to her perseverance, Truc was able to lose weight to 100kg.

After training in the Jujitsu team for 3 months, Truc tried her hand at the first major tournament of her career, the 2021 National Jujitsu Club Championship in Da Nang , and won 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal in her first time competing at the national level. From her first achievement, Truc has continuously won gold medals in competitions over the past 4 years. In 2022, she brought home a gold medal for the Thanh Hoa delegation at the 9th National Sports Festival in the over 70kg weight class, Newaza Gi. In 2024, she was called up to the national team and has since become a pillar of the team preparing for the big international playground.

Right from the first tournament that was "out in the open sea" which was the 2024 Asian Jujitsu Championship held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Thanh Hoa female martial artist affirmed her talent when she excellently won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals, setting a historic milestone for Jujitsu and Thanh Hoa sports in the continental arena. At the 2025 Asian Jujitsu Championship, young female martial artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc competed explosively to win 3 gold medals in the professional category and 2 gold medals in the U21 category, contributing nearly half of the achievements of the Vietnamese Jujitsu team.

From a rough diamond, thanks to her diligence, observation skills and fierce competitive spirit, the shy girl has continuously achieved high results in all competitions. For many years, she had no opponents in domestic tournaments in the women's over 70kg weight class, but this female boxer did not rest on her laurels. She is striving to continue her journey in a quiet but fierce way.
