A burning desire to excel with Jujitsu.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc is the pride of the Jujitsu team and Thanh Hoa sports .

Having lost her father at a young age, and with her mother recently passing away due to cancer, Thanh Truc was raised by her grandmother while her two older brothers had to leave home to earn a living.

During his time teaching at Pham Van Hinh Secondary School, physical education teacher Pham Ba Viet noticed Truc's athletic talent and paid close attention to guiding her. He then introduced her to the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center when Truc was in 8th grade. Starting in 2019, Truc officially left home to pursue a professional sports career in wrestling. In 2021, when the Jujitsu department was established, the Jujitsu coaching staff saw that she was well-suited to the new sport and encouraged her to switch from wrestling. However, the path to glory is never smooth and paved with roses. For martial arts athletes, behind the moments of triumph on the competition floor and the overwhelming happiness of receiving a medal lies the hardship, rigorous training, sweat, tears, and even danger.

Sharing her journey to becoming a professional athlete, Truc said that initially, when she was called to the team, she was very excited and curious. However, when she officially began professional training, she experienced the full extent of the difficulties and challenges of this sport. Before important competitions, Truc had to follow a strict diet and train intensely for 6-8 hours a day – something not every girl can do. With such demanding training schedules and content, injuries have become an unavoidable part of this female athlete's life.

Historically, martial arts teams have rarely produced talented athletes in the heavier weight classes. However, these weight classes are precisely the strength of Thanh Hoa's high-performance sports. The early discovery, nurturing, and training of Truc in the over 70kg weight class has given Vietnamese sports a new talent and hope for reaching new heights in Jujitsu. Competing in the over 70kg weight class, she has overcome her insecurities about her "oversized" physique compared to many other female athletes to dedicate herself to the sport.

Before being called up to the national Jujitsu team, Truc weighed up to 120kg, prompting the coaching staff to create a strict weight loss program. Thanks to her perseverance, Truc managed to reduce her weight to 100kg.

After training with the national jujitsu team for three months, Truc competed in her first major tournament, the 2021 National Jujitsu Club Championship in Da Nang , winning one gold and one silver medal on her first national-level appearance. Following this initial success, Truc has consistently won gold medals at various competitions over the past four years. In 2022, she brought home a gold medal for Thanh Hoa province at the 9th National Sports Games in the over 70kg Newaza Gi category. In 2024, she was called up to the national team and has since become a key player, preparing for major international competitions.

Right from her first tournament on the international stage, the 2024 Asian Jujitsu Championships held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the female jujitsu athlete from Thanh Hoa province affirmed her talent by winning 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals, setting a historical milestone for jujitsu and Thanh Hoa sports on the continental stage. At the 2025 Asian Jujitsu Championships, young female jujitsu athlete Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc performed brilliantly, winning 3 gold medals in the professional category and 2 gold medals in the U21 category, contributing nearly half of the achievements of the Vietnamese jujitsu team.

From a rough gem, thanks to hard work, keen observation skills, and a fierce competitive spirit, the once shy girl has consistently achieved high results in every competition. For many years, she was unrivaled in domestic tournaments in the women's over 70kg weight class, but this female fighter did not rest on her laurels. She is quietly but resolutely striving to continue her journey.
