This is the first road bridge across the Dong Nai River connecting Nhon Trach district with Ho Chi Minh City, construction has basically been completed.
Connecting Nhon Trach with Ho Chi Minh City
Nhon Trach Bridge is a part of Component Project 1A, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section of Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City. Component Project 1A has a total length of more than 8km, passing through Nhon Trach district for 6.3km and Ho Chi Minh City for nearly 2km. The project has a total investment of nearly 7 trillion VND, of which the Nhon Trach Bridge alone has a total investment of about 1.8 trillion VND. The project started construction in September 2022.
This is a key project, playing a role in connecting the region, shortening travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Dong Nai, especially Nhon Trach district and neighboring localities. According to the original plan, Project Component 1A would be completed and put into operation in September 2025. However, with the determination to complete the project early, the investor, My Thuan Project Management Board and contractors have accelerated the construction progress. By April 27, Nhon Trach Bridge, an important item of the project, had completed the technical traffic opening target.
According to Deputy Director of My Thuan Project Management Board Diep Bao Tuan, the technical opening of Nhon Trach Bridge is a very important basis to ensure the completion of the entire Component 1A Project by the end of June, shortening the progress by about 3 months compared to the contract.
According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, although the project is ahead of schedule, the contractors are not complacent, but are taking full advantage of the remaining time of the dry season to continue focusing all resources on construction to ensure quality and strive to further shorten the project completion time.
Component 1A Project, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section extends from Provincial Road 25B to Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway. The starting point intersects with Provincial Road 25B in Nhon Trach district and the ending point intersects with Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway in Thu Duc city (Ho Chi Minh City). The project is invested and constructed from ODA loans from the Korean Government through the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and counterpart funds from the Vietnamese Government.
To develop Nhon Trach commensurate with its potential
Nhon Trach District is located in the heart of the Southern Key Economic Zone, playing an extremely important role in the socio-economic development of Dong Nai. Geographically, Nhon Trach District is located close to the largest urban area in the country, Ho Chi Minh City. The center of Nhon Trach District is located within a radius of 20km from District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. However, Nhon Trach and Ho Chi Minh City are separated by the Dong Nai, Long Tau, Dong Tranh, and Thi Vai rivers. Meanwhile, for a long time, the road bridge project expected to connect Nhon Trach District with Ho Chi Minh City, which is a bridge to replace Cat Lai ferry, has been slow to be implemented.
The situation of “near home but far from the alley” between Nhon Trach district and the big city of Ho Chi Minh City is one of the reasons why Nhon Trach urban area has not been able to develop commensurate with its potential over the past decades.
In that context, Nhon Trach Bridge, the first bridge connecting Nhon Trach District with Ho Chi Minh City as well as the entire Component Project 1A will be completed and put into operation at the end of June, which will be the "node" to open up the development of Nhon Trach urban area.
According to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc, in the development orientation, Nhon Trach new urban area will be a type II urban area, an industrial, commercial, service, education - training, science and technology center of Dong Nai province and the Southeast region. However, due to limitations in traffic connection, Nhon Trach urban area has not yet met all the criteria of a type II urban area. Therefore, when completed, Component Project 1A will create a new connection between Nhon Trach district and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as localities in the region. This will open up opportunities for Nhon Trach to become a type II urban area, while creating a premise for completing the entire Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City Project.
Dr. Pham Viet Thuan, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, assessed that when the transport infrastructure system is invested synchronously and modernly, including the opening of Nhon Trach bridge on Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City to connect this locality with Ho Chi Minh City, Nhon Trach area will have many opportunities to make a breakthrough in development.
