Ensuring a clean water supply during Tet (Lunar New Year)

Water supply companies in Hai Phong are preparing operational and regulatory plans to ensure safe, continuous, and stable water supply to meet the increased demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday.

This Lunar New Year brings extra joy to the people of Cap Tien area, Tan Minh commune. After many years of waiting, they can now use clean water that meets the National Technical Standard QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT of the Ministry of Health , supplied by Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company.

Previously, starting from October 10, 2025, Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company, in coordination with the People's Committee of Tan Minh commune, implemented a project to install a clean water supply pipeline system in the Cap Tien area. The project involved investing in the entire main pipeline and service pipeline network with a total length of 37.5 km, at a total cost of 30.3 billion VND. To date, the project is basically complete and will provide clean water to more than 1,700 households before January 15, 2026.

Mr. Luong Ngoc Danh, Secretary of the Party Branch of Quan Bo village, Tan Minh commune, happily stated that for many years, local residents have used water supplied by a small water treatment plant. However, the water quality was not guaranteed, causing concern about health impacts. Just before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the villagers were delighted to have access to clean, standard-compliant water supplied to the village and to each household. After testing the water supply in several households, the water flow was stable and the pressure was strong.

Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company is currently the leading provider of clean water in the eastern part of the city. Over the years, the company has continuously strived to reduce water loss and expand its service area to meet the needs of the people, especially in suburban areas. The company currently serves more than 1.5 million customers in the central urban area and many suburban communes.

For the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday, in addition to urgently completing new water supply and network renovation projects to meet the projected 20-30% increase in clean water consumption compared to other months of the year, the company is proactively developing operational plans to ensure even water distribution across all areas. The quality, flow rate, and pressure will remain stable and safe throughout the entire network.

To meet that requirement, the company coordinated plans and strategies with irrigation companies to ensure sufficient raw water reserves of sufficient quality to supply 10 water treatment plants, maintaining continuous operation during the Tet holiday. Simultaneously, contingency plans were in place to prevent water supply interruptions in the event of power or water supply system failures.

In the western region, to ensure sufficient clean water supply for residents during the 2026 Tet holiday, major water supply companies such as Hai Duong Clean Water Business Joint Stock Company and Hai Duong Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Joint Stock Company are implementing various measures. These companies are conducting inspections and reviews of the entire water supply infrastructure to minimize leaks and pipe bursts. Water treatment plants are deploying personnel on duty 24/7 to manage and ensure the smooth operation of water production and supply to residents.

Although water supply units have prepared contingency plans for emergencies, we cannot be complacent about unexpected situations that may arise.

According to the leaders of Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company, based on the actual climate changes and the incidents of water pipeline ruptures that have occurred in recent years, there is a real risk of such incidents happening during this year's Tet holiday. Therefore, this year, the company has also prepared plans to transmit and transfer water from other plants to supplement areas experiencing water supply problems.

As one of the units providing clean water to urban residents and industrial zones in An Duong and An Phong wards, Hai Phong Clean Water Business Company No. 2 has proactively implemented solutions to ensure a stable supply of clean water in its managed area.

The An Duong water treatment plant, belonging to Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company, is currently supplying clean water to the entire central urban area of ​​the city.

According to company leaders, although most factories and production facilities close for the Tet holiday, having a readily available water supply to respond to fire and explosion incidents is crucial. Therefore, the company is proactively planning for rotating personnel shifts, preparing supplies, chemicals, and backup generators in case of power outages, ensuring continuous production and preventing water shortages during the Tet holiday.

Hai Duong Clean Water Business Joint Stock Company has deployed vehicles to serve in case of water outages. In the event of a localized water shortage, the company will dispatch vehicles to transport clean water to supply residents in areas far from the source.

Besides the proactive efforts of water supply units, given the increased overall demand during Tet, city residents should raise their awareness of using clean water rationally and economically, avoiding overload and preventing incidents.
