In 1988, he co-founded Studio Archea, now Archea Associati, one of the largest architectural firms in Italy and Europe with more than 260 architects working in offices around the world . In 2020, he was the Ambassador of Italian Design - Italian Design Day in Vietnam.

At the talk, architect Marco Casamonti led the audience on a journey to discover 9 unique architectural works in the countries: Italy, Albania, Georgia, Vietnam, China. He shared interesting stories about the design process, and explained the close connection between the local context and the architectural ideas in each project.

Inviting architect Marco Casamonti as the main speaker of this seminar not only comes from his international influence but also from his affinity with Vietnam, as he is the designer of the Kiss Bridge, an iconic project on Phu Quoc Island - Director of Kienviet Media, architect Vuong Dao Hoang added.

Unique perspectives on architecture and culture

In the design perspective of Professor and architect Marco Casamonti, history and tradition are always one of the important foundations in the process of creating and practicing architecture. Therefore, the humanistic and sustainable values and the indigenous-cultural elements of each country are always mentioned in the works of him and his colleagues.

Not only known for his impressive works in the world, in Vietnam, architect Marco Casamonti also left his mark with the Kissing Bridge project in Phu Quoc city. The bridge has a total length of 810m and is made of steel with a total mass of up to 5,000 tons - a huge amount of steel, equal to half the amount of steel used to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris (France).

In particular, the Kissing Bridge is the only bridge that does not connect the two ends of the bridge, but in the middle of the bridge is a 50cm wide gap. Standing at the two ends of the bridge, the kisses symbolizing love and the friendly handshakes will become more sacred. The bridge will be a witness to love, friendship, and the connection between people. The Kissing Bridge project has been shortlisted for the (d)arc 2024 Award - Honoring the best lighting design.

"I believe that architecture must reflect the spirit of the place and connect people with the surrounding space. Each project not only creates living space, but also designs a dialogue between people and nature, between the past and the future."

The architect who has traveled around the world also highly appreciates the depth of culture and aesthetics in Vietnam, and especially emphasizes his love for Vietnamese cuisine - something that always impresses and attracts him every time he comes to Vietnam.

The seminar was co-organized by DMD, Kienviet Media, Contemporary solutions, ICHAM, IITC, Sunjin Vietnam and Weplay, under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Hanoi and the support of Eleganz Furniture, TID Facade. In the coming time, CREA.TALK will continue to seek ideas and organize exchange and research events, aiming to build a platform for dialogue and connection of the creative community in the fields of architecture, interior design, graphics, art and other creative industries.
