Lai Chau: A traffic police officer died while on duty.

While on duty, Captain Ha Van Minh, an officer of the Traffic Police Department Working Group (Lai Chau Provincial Police), was hit by a vehicle that did not comply with orders, resulting in serious injuries and death.

Specifically, on the afternoon of June 28, while performing a patrol to ensure security and order in the old Muong So commune, now Phong Tho commune, the working group discovered two motorbikes violating traffic laws. At that time, Captain Ha Van Minh signaled the vehicles to stop for inspection. The subjects did not comply with the orders of the functional forces, one subject recklessly increased the speed and rammed his motorbike straight into the working group and then fled.

The incident left Captain Ha Van Minh seriously injured. Although he was taken to the emergency room, Captain Ha Van Minh passed away at 8:03 a.m. on July 2, 2025 due to severe injuries.

In recognition of the sacrifice and bravery of Captain Ha Van Minh, on July 2, 2025, General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, signed a decision to posthumously promote the rank of Captain to Major and propose to award the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Major Ha Van Minh.

Lieutenant Colonel Tran Ngoc Ha, Head of the Traffic Police Department, Lai Chau Provincial Police, said this was a huge loss for the family, the unit and the People's Police force.

Also according to Lieutenant Colonel Ha, recently, in some communes in the old Than Uyen district, there has been a situation of young people driving motorbikes without helmets, carrying 2 or 3 people at high speed, weaving, revving the engine, revving the engine... on the roads, not obeying the orders of the authorities, causing traffic insecurity.

Based on the violations, the Traffic Police force has drawn up a record and strictly handled them in accordance with the provisions of the law.

In order to promptly prevent violations of traffic safety laws, the Traffic Police Department recommends that parents do not give their children vehicles when they are not qualified; coordinate with the authorities to strengthen propaganda work, raise awareness and sense of compliance with traffic safety laws, and minimize possible unfortunate consequences.
