The Ministry of Industry and Trade assessed that Vietnam's retail industry is experiencing a period of strong growth and development with great potential. In addition to 8,500 traditional markets and thousands of convenience stores, the market also has the presence of 1,080 supermarkets and 240 shopping malls.

The thirst for cashiers and sales staff in modern supermarkets

According to a report from Mordor Intelligence, the retail market size in Vietnam is forecast to reach about 310 billion USD by 2025, likely to reach 488 billion USD by 2029.

There are many prospects, but data from Vietnam Briefing also shows the reality that the modern retail market in our country is growing at about 10%/year, while the traditional channel is only around 4-5%, leading to a great demand for a well-trained workforce.

In the industry, supermarket cashiers and sales are always among the top recruits. However, many industry experts say that the Vietnamese supermarket system is lacking professional retail staff.

Although the positions of cashier and sales person in a supermarket may sound simple, in reality they require good professional skills if you want to develop a long-term career.

For supermarket cashiers, staff need to be proficient in using POS devices (cash register and bill printing), barcode scanners, card payment machines, or handling cash quickly and accurately, checking for counterfeit money... Along with communication skills to handle situations and resolve complaints during peak hours.

Sales positions in supermarkets also require specialized knowledge in arranging and displaying goods according to standard diagrams (planograms), inventory management, expiration date control, and compliance with food hygiene and safety procedures. At the same time, it requires consulting skills, customer support, and coordination with other departments...

Therefore, systematic staff training helps reduce the risk of loss, improve service quality, improve customer experience and meet the operating standards of the modern retail industry. In recent times, many large and small supermarket systems in Vietnam have organized internal training courses, but in reality, more professional and thorough programs are still needed.

With high recruitment demand for cashiers and sales staff, implementing a primary vocational training program is an effective solution to standardize skills and build a stable human resource for the entire industry, not just serving a single retail system.

Cashier and sales jobs in supermarkets are attractive thanks to a clear career path, opportunities to practice communication skills, manage goods, and handle situations. Stable income, full benefits, cool working space, professional and modern services.

Pioneering vocational training, prioritizing recruitment

As the largest retail system in the country, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Commercial Cooperatives ( Saigon Co.op ) announced that it has officially expanded its operations into vocational education for supermarket cashiers and supermarket sales.

The highlight is that theory goes hand in hand with practice, aiming to train quality human resources right from the beginning, to serve the development strategy of the unit and contribute to developing retail human resources for the community.

These training programs are designed by Saigon Co.op itself based on many years of operating experience of the system and a team of lecturers and experts with expertise and extensive experience.

Supermarket cashier and supermarket sales jobs will be organized and trained based on the certificate of registration for vocational education activities issued by the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City (now this function belongs to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City).

The program has up to 80% of the time spent on practical training, helping students to be ready for work immediately after graduation. Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded a primary certificate according to the Law on Vocational Education.

The outstanding advantage of the training programs is "learning goes hand in hand with practice", combining theoretical teaching at Saigon Co.op Vocational Training Center (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) and direct practice at the Co.opmart supermarket system.

This model creates conditions for students to develop professional skills during their studies, while increasing their ability to adapt to work immediately after graduation. Outstanding students are also given priority in recruitment to work at Saigon Co.op retail supermarket systems nationwide.
