Promote vocational training, expand employment opportunities
Vinh Chau commune has achieved many results in poverty reduction thanks to focusing on promoting vocational training and forming production models suitable to local conditions. Many vocational training classes have been opened locally, creating conditions for people, especially women and idle workers, to access, thereby having more jobs and income without having to go far.
Ms. Huynh Kim Ngan (living in Lang Sen hamlet) participated in the shoe sewing class and excitedly shared: “Since the commune opened the sewing class, I have had a job right at home, earning 5-6 million VND per month. Time is not limited, so I can work and take care of my family at the same time.”
For vocational training classes to be effective, the local teaching staff plays an important role. Mr. Dang Van Em - who directly teaches shoe sewing in the commune, said: "Training is organized practically, closely following the needs of businesses. People who learn sewing have more stable jobs, and their income is better than before. The lives of many households have changed significantly. I also proactively cooperate with some companies in Ho Chi Minh City to receive goods for people to do extra work, ensuring stable product output."
To meet the diverse needs of the people, Vinh Chau commune cooperated with Dong Thap Muoi Vocational Training Center and the Provincial Vocational Training Center - Farmers Support to open many classes on cattle raising techniques, straw mushroom growing, water hyacinth weaving, cooking, 3D jelly making, industrial sewing, bonsai bending, fruit tree growing... with more than 210 students participating.
Thereby, people have jobs and income, contributing to reducing the poverty rate in the locality. According to statistics, the multidimensional poverty rate of the commune has decreased from 3.66% to 3.13%, corresponding to a reduction of 4 poor households and 6 near-poor households, exceeding the target set by the resolution.
Vice Chairman of Vinh Chau Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Men said: "The commune continues to replicate effective models, deploy new models suitable to natural conditions and people's needs. The commune focuses on promoting the application of technology in model management, vocational training, technology transfer, expanding market access opportunities for households; mobilizing social resources, businesses and credit institutions to participate in supporting livelihoods, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction."
Improving the quality of vocational training, creating motivation to escape poverty

Water hyacinth weaving has gradually become the main livelihood of many households in Hung Dien commune.
Hung Dien Commune is also considered a "bright spot" in vocational training for workers from poor and near-poor households. In the period of 2021-2025, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with Long An College - Dong Thap Muoi Campus to open 4 vocational training classes, attracting 89 students to participate and receive certificates. Many side job models have also been expanded to create more jobs on the spot for idle agricultural workers. In particular, the water hyacinth weaving class attracted the attention of many women.
Ms. Vo Thi Duong (living in Nga Tu hamlet) shared: “Since learning the craft of weaving water hyacinth, I have had more work in my spare time. I make about 10 products a day, earning more than 150,000 VND. This money helps me cover my family's living expenses, making me less worried than before.”
Thanks to the right attention and support, the poverty rate of Hung Dien commune has decreased from 7.15% to 4.24% by the end of 2025, showing the clear effectiveness of vocational training programs associated with sustainable livelihoods.
Vice Chairman of Hung Dien Commune People's Committee Le Phan Quang Trung informed: "The commune prioritizes vocational training and loan support for poor households, near-poor households, households that have just escaped poverty and people with disabilities who have no livelihood. The commune pays special attention to supporting poor ethnic minority households, households with people who have contributed to the revolution and poor women. Training courses on production techniques and conversion of crops and livestock towards sustainability are held regularly. The commune is also promoting the application of digital transformation in vocational training registration and job connection."
The reality in Vinh Chau and Hung Dien communes shows that diversifying livelihoods, developing secondary occupations and implementing production support models is the right direction, bringing long-term effectiveness in poverty reduction. When people are trained in appropriate occupations, have access to capital and participate in community linkage models, they have the opportunity to rise up, become economically independent and gradually stabilize their lives.
With the support of the government, socio-political organizations and the efforts of the people themselves, the goal of sustainable poverty reduction in localities is gradually becoming a reality, creating an important foundation for socio-economic development in the following years./.
