Dau Tieng Lake is a particularly important national irrigation project located on the upper Saigon River, in the provinces of Tay Ninh, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City. The lake has a designed capacity of 1.58 billion m³, with a water surface area of about 270 km².
The project plays a regulatory role for many purposes: Providing direct irrigation water and creating a source for more than 140,000 hectares of cultivation, providing water for daily life and agricultural and industrial production for localities in the region.

Dau Tieng Lake releases floodwaters to welcome storm No. 15
Since the beginning of 2025, the lake has discharged a total of 1,441.64 million m³ of water through the spillway and maintained environmental flow, combined with transferring water from Phuoc Hoa Lake to supplement 1,183.07 million m³ to ensure water balance and serve to push back salinity.

The flood discharge area after the spillway has a fast water flow rate when the flood discharge level is at 200m3 /s.
To respond to storm No. 15, General Director of Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company, Tran Quang Hung, said that from November 25 to December 3, the reservoir will flexibly discharge from 36-200 m³/s.
During the period from November 25 to 29, the unit will maintain the discharge of 200 m³/s to proactively lower the water level, increasing the ability to cut floods when the storm makes landfall.
After November 29, depending on weather and tide developments, the discharge volume will be adjusted accordingly to ensure safety of the project and downstream areas.
Flood discharge options from 200–600 m³/s were evaluated at the specialized conference, ensuring the ability to respond quickly when strong storms and heavy rains occur over a large area.

Currently, Dau Tieng Lake maintains a discharge of 200 m³/s to proactively lower the water level, increasing the ability to cut floods when storms make landfall.
According to Mr. Tran Quang Hung, to ensure safety for downstream areas when the reservoir discharges floodwaters, the Company regularly coordinates with local authorities to inspect and evaluate the drainage status of the canal after the spillway and the Saigon River.
Through inspection, some locations encroaching on the flood drainage area after the spillway and along the Saigon River are at risk of causing water congestion. Specifically, some food and beverage businesses built close to the water's edge on the canal section cause flooding when the reservoir discharges 150-200 m³/s; in Nui Dat hamlet (Dau Tieng commune), houses are built encroaching on the riverbed. These locations can slow down flood drainage, cause local flooding, affect agricultural production and people's safety.

Construction area encroaches on flood escape corridor
The company has recommended that local authorities review and upgrade the dike system and tide-prevention sluices, and increase propaganda so that people living along the river can proactively harvest crops, relocate livestock, and limit fishing when the lake increases discharge.
Also according to Mr. Tran Quang Hung, based on the forecast bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Southern Hydro-Meteorological Station, this year's flood season is likely to end late and the flood situation may last until December 2025. Therefore, the Company maintains a 24/7 duty to be ready to respond and serve the information reception work of relevant units.
At the same time, the Company continues to monitor natural disasters, water resources developments, and tidal developments to deploy appropriate water regulation plans. This will include performing well the role of cutting and reducing floods during high tides; and having appropriate flood regulation plans according to procedures during low tides./.
