Discussing cooperation plan for Phong Nha - Ke Bang and Hin Nam No heritage

TPO - From July 27-30, Quang Tri province sent a working delegation to attend the Workshop on Building a cross-border cooperation plan between Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Tri) and Hin Nam No National Park (Khan Muon - Laos).

At the workshop, the two sides shared and exchanged experiences, reviewed policies, legal regulations, and current local customary laws to adjust, supplement, and perfect them in accordance with international standards or make recommendations to the central level.

The workshop also discussed the proposal to sign a separate protocol for cross-border conservation management of heritage, to facilitate coordination of activities between the two sides, and access for scientists and tourists from both countries and internationally.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Hoang Nam - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province - affirmed that the locality is committed to continuing to inherit and well implement the signed agreements between the two provinces (formerly Quang Binh and Khammouane province) on cross-border cooperation in the field of conservation and promotion of biodiversity values ​​and world heritages in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park; including the content of cross-border heritage conservation in the content of high-level cooperation between Quang Tri and Khammouane provinces, continuing to accompany Khammouane province in efforts to conserve and promote the values ​​of cross-border world heritages Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park in the coming time.

The People's Committee of Quang Tri province assigned the Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board as the standing agency, presiding over and coordinating with the departments and branches of the province to study and advise the Provincial People's Committee to effectively and efficiently implement the contents of the signed agreements; coordinate and advise on the development and completion of the framework and plan for cross-border cooperation between Phong Nha - Ke Bang and Hin Nam No for the leaders of the two provinces to consider and report to the Governments of the two countries for implementation. This is a very good opportunity for the two provinces of Khammouane and Quang Tri to promote tourism development, protect the green environment, and contribute to sustainable socio-economic development.

As Tien Phong reported, on July 13, 2025, at the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee (UNESCO) in Paris, the French Republic passed a Decision approving the adjustment of the boundaries of the World Natural Heritage Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park (Quang Tri province, Vietnam) including Hin Nam No National Park (Kham Muon province, Laos), with the name: "Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park and Hin Nam No National Park" in the World Heritage List based on criteria (viii), (ix) and (x). This is the first cross-border natural heritage of Vietnam and Laos, further strengthening the friendly relationship between the two countries.
