Previously, in the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the Vietnam U23 team defeated the Indonesia U23 team 1-0, thereby successfully defending the championship for the third consecutive time. This is the result of thorough preparation, resilient fighting spirit and flexible direction from the coaching staff. This success also opens up hope for Vietnamese youth football in upcoming continental tournaments.
U23 Vietnam players return home to the welcome of fans
After two consecutive championships in 2022 and 2023, U23 Vietnam has become the first team in history to win the U23 Southeast Asian Championship for three consecutive seasons. In addition, coach Kim Sang Sik also became the first coach to win both the national team and U23 championships in Southeast Asia. At the award ceremony, player Nguyen Dinh Bac received the award for the best player of the tournament.
Speaking to the media at the airport, Mr. Kim Sang Sik, Head Coach of the Vietnam National Team, said that through the tournament, the young players of the U23 Vietnam team have gained a lot of experience in their playing career. This is considered an important step for the personnel of the National Team in the near future.
"In the near future, I will have a specific plan for the U23 players and the national team to integrate tactics when focusing on a new tournament" - Coach Kim Sang Sik said.
It is expected that at the end of August, U23 Vietnam will gather again to prepare for the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers taking place in early September.
