This person expressed skepticism in a description on their Douyin account, asking, "Could this fish have grown up eating gold?" Some netizens commented that its entire body was shimmering gold, as if it were made of gold leaf and glued onto the fish. Some even suggested that the fish didn't exist.

Upon seeing the image of the golden carp, some people exclaimed, "After crossing the Dragon Gate, the carp has transformed into a golden dragon!" They called it a supreme carp and requested that the angler treat it well.

Some people even joked that this fish fell from the sky and we should release it as soon as possible!

Chagoi Koi – The "King" of Koi in the pond

So, what species of fish is this strange carp?

According to some fish experts, the fish the man caught was a Chagoi Koi. Chagoi Koi are considered a popular breed among koi enthusiasts worldwide . This type of fish originates from Japan, a country where the art of koi farming has flourished for hundreds of years.

Although the exact time of its appearance cannot be determined, many researchers believe that Chagoi Koi originated during the Taisho period , from 1912 to 1926. Expert studies indicate that this breed is a hybrid created by combining three other fish lines: Asagi Koi, Doitsu Koi, and black carp.

Initially, when first bred, Chagoi Koi were quite modest in size, but today they are known for their exceptional growth. Most Chagoi Koi can reach 70cm, and some individuals can even grow larger, up to 1.2 meters.

The name Chagoi originates from the Chinese word "Cha," meaning tea, reflecting their coloration. While young, Chagoi koi can be mistaken for other varieties, but as they mature, they become more recognizable with many distinctive and unique characteristics.

Chagoi Koi have distinctive physical characteristics, including a rounded body, a short back, and a long, slender torso, with a broad head and shoulders. They have stiff, long whiskers and a slightly humped head. Their pectoral, dorsal, and caudal fins are thick and opaque, preventing light from passing through. Chagoi have lively and alert eyes. The head of the fish should be clear and free of orange, red, or black spots.

Chagoi Koi always maintain a monochromatic color, usually a dull tea color. Some Chagoi individuals have a bluish-gray color, known as Soragoi Koi, while those with a pale green color are called Midorigoi Koi. Chagoi can have smooth skin; some may have iridescent scales or not. However, it is essential that they have a "net" of scales on their bodies. The gill and dorsal fins of a Chagoi should be the same color as their body, creating a very harmonious and balanced overall appearance.

Chagoi Koi are also known as the "King" of Japanese Koi because of their ability to lead the school of fish. They are often the first to approach people when being fed, and the other fish will follow suit. They usually create cohesion and order within the school, playing an important role, which is why a Chagoi Koi is always kept in a Koi pond.

A study from the University of Tokyo shows that this fish species has a strong ability to adapt to its environment, allowing it to easily adapt and thrive in a variety of environmental conditions.

Koi fish are not only beloved for their beauty and friendly nature, but also hold significant spiritual meaning in Japanese culture and around the world. They symbolize patience and strength, reflecting the traditional story of the carp transforming into a dragon – a symbol of overcoming difficulties to achieve success.

Additionally, Chagoi fish symbolize peace and unity, thanks to their ability to lead, connect, and maintain order among the fish in the lake.

According to feng shui, Koi Chagoi fish also symbolize wealth and good fortune. Their earthy brown or olive green color represents stability and balance, attracting positive energy and prosperity.

With these spiritual values and benefits, it's no wonder that Chagoi Koi are always the preferred choice for many Koi breeders.
